Having not known about the drama at the time of writing, my interpretation of it was moral panic as it applies to modern societies and governments, which is an assertion strongly supported by the lyrics on display. Knowing about the allegations opens up new ways to perceive the title, but even in light of that knowledge I still favor the first explanation as it fits all the album's themes. Not saying it isn't hypocritical (especially if the accusations ever prove true), but to me that's the obvious interpretation of the title if you've paid close attention to the doomsday motifs and how critical the lyrics are of pretty much both sides of the political spectrum (especially the right).

"my interpretation of it was moral panic as it applies to modern societies and governments, which is an assertion strongly supported by the lyrics on display."
Hard agree, it's definitely politically charged, I never even considered that the focus was on the ongoing drama with some members of the band

For me it's not even close to 4.5 . I'm pretty disappointed with that release . There are a few great songs in here but the previous 2 albums were much better. I guess I'm not into the sound shifting

It pretty consistently great imo, don't know how this is that different from their other albums. It doesn't have a song like Paricles, but idc tbh

I actually love that line, but probably for different reasons (it being a distraction, time consuming, in some cases dehumanizing). But you are most likely right that it's an allusion to the backlash against him due to the accusations, assuming that's what you were implying.

The album is slowly growing on me. It is as good as the previous records.
I was a huge fan of them before the release of the #nbtisoverparty on Twitter.
Regarding the sexual abuse: basically, they didn't do anything illegal.
However, they were sexting under age girls inciting them to have sex while keeping it secret, abusing their social fame to manipulate them, etc... (screenshots of the messages they were sending AND testimonials from the victims are available on Twitter)
Personally, I won't support them anymore because those are behaviours that go against my core values. It's a shame because I really like their music but they are complete idiots (except one of the guitarist).
So to me, this album "Moral Panic" is totally linked to these events because they are denying having done almost anything wrong.

Gave this a first listen yesterday. First impression is it's not as good as the first two albums or EP, feels a bit ballad heavy and the songs that go a bit harder don't feel like they have much of an edge. Connor, as usual, is excellent, he sounds as amazing as ever but I do miss the raw edge he had on the last album.
I don't get the fuss about Unperson. I get what they were going for but to me it sounds like ideas just kind of slapped together and doesn't have much natural flow. I'll also never be a fan of their "rapping" style of vocals, 'live like animals' is one of my least enjoyed songs of theirs and Unperson reminds me of that. Scratching my head as to why they opened the album with this as the song is a bit cringe-worthy to me.
Now, I just read about the drama with texting fans. If proven true this is gross. I understand they were young and learning to deal with their fame but it's not an excuse. Very dissapointing when I can't listen to a great band because of their shitty actions. As much as I try to seperate the celebrity from the artist I can't ignore shit like this.

^undoubtedly gross lol. just like a snapshot of like two text conversations leaving everything else out tho, so pretty annoying. guess it makes sense for these ppl to be exposed. only thing is I feel like most ppl are pretty gross and they just repress the shit out of themselves, so I dunno if I'm rlly for all this shit of exposing ppl and calling them all gross over this stuff on the internet.
people are way too weird and pent up right now. I think that's probably what the artist would say, so don't know if title is all that hypocritical at all.
band is probably best of a genre that specializes in somewhat cringey shit. phobia is a pretty good track and in terms of the allegations sums it up pretty well I think.

ya tbh just like 5 previews of their songs pretty much makes this thread ironic. Whole point is how much everyone will judge you for ethical things from the outside and making a scandal of everyone and everything so that everyone is just pent up and going crazy. So ya, if you really listened to this whole album and didn't get that, I don't know what to tell ya. You're the pack mentality calling him a criminal on the internet lol.
pretty classic tbh. but ya pretty grody so hey haha.

Yeah this is poppier than their latest outing but they do it well. 'Real Love Song' reminds me of The Killers

Just started on this, I oscillate from feeling icky for listening to something only moderately less shallow than The Killers/Maroon 5 and thinking these guys are really talented.

'Phobia' is cool but I really don't care/remember any of the rest
Also "can you affort to be an invidual?" is nice
I'll spin it again to see if I get to care about it a lil bit more. . .

Bumped it as I found some other tracks I dig, e.g. title track, but this lacks the 'punch' some tracks just had in their previous discs, and I don't see myself listening to this much longer.
