"Blurryface just sounds like music I'd hear at the supermarket and pay not much mind to tbh"
what supermarket is playing Goner
"In general this band is insufferable but they make earworms"
at their best, their sheer earnestness makes them so insufferable it loops back around and becomes endearing

"what supermarket is playing Goner"
I really hope none cause I'd have to put down my groseries on the floor and walk out

there's something offputting about them agreed
like Project said it's almost like they're too earnest
It's a lot more agreeable when paired with fun catchy jams like "heavydirtysoul" or "Tear in My Heart" though...the last two albums have not come close to that level

Blurryface contains some of the most obnoxious and overly self-conscious music they've ever produced...to call Trench or even this a step back is so wild to me

>overly self-conscious
this is the exact phrase that describes what i don't like about them and i don't really hear it in this which is why i like it. the lyrics are still earnest but they don't have that...annoying quality to them

Trench bored me to tears
I listened to it maybe 4-5 times when it came out and I never returned, don't remember a thing about it, and have no desire to put in continued effort with it.
Blurryface might be obnoxious and self-conscious, but it is fun as heck.
Would love to hear what people feel is better about Trenches...is it the lyrics? Because musically it felt pretty dull to me by comparison, whereas Blurryface was vibrant and energetic.

great review ty! i'll not listen to this, absolutely hated everything i've heard by this band with the exception of like one trench single

my review says my opinions on Trench... it was initially a 5/5 review back when I first wrote it
|

o yea the reason i didn't dislike the thing (i don't remember what thing lol) from trench was because it felt a lot less over the top i think.. and it didn't have an absolutely infuriatingly annoying chorus a la most of blurryface haha

"the last two albums have not come close to that level"
agreed they haven't sunk that low
"Would love to hear what people feel is better about Trenches"
for starters, production value is richer
Blurryface is utterly cringy and like others said overly self-conscious, it even feels dishonest at times

I guess I love infuriatingly annoying choruses then :D

hahaha i think i do too most of the time (growing up on pop punk does that to you ig) but blurryface was one bridge too far
