Hm, still think Lost in the Dream is a pretty near perfect album overall, just about every other song on that one is 5/5, no perceivable dips in quality throughout (the interlude track doesn’t count). This does seem more even quality throughout than Slave/Deeper which are pretty frontloaded.

These are my RYM track ratings for Lost in the Dream (too lazy to add titles rn):
1. 5/5
2. 5/5
3. 4.5/5
4. 5/5
5. 4/5
6. 5/5
7. 3.5/5
8. 4.5/5
9. 5/5
10. 4.5/5
Ever so slightly frontloaded but impressively consistent even still.

This one is missing an “epic” though, their two longest songs (“Thinking of a Place” and “Under the Pressure”) are also their best.

Under the Pressure is great, think Disappearing is my favourite now

You definitely rate Suffering higher than me, might just be a 3.5 for me

Eyes to the Wind is still my favorite LitD track. There's just something so comforting about that song.

I know it's a boring pick but I love Red Eyes best from LITD, although the album is pretty incredible all the way through. Deeper is still my favourite album of theirs though

I like the other one everybody likes

Red Eyes and the Twin Peaks vibes of Disappearing are my highlights from LitD

My thoughts on TWOD's discography:
Wagonwheel Blues: great album on its own terms, but clearly before the band came into their own. Only a few songs which match their later level of quality, 3.5
Slave Ambient: the band came into their own here, a bit inconsistent though, but I'll echo Talons that Black Water Falls is one of their best tunes, 4.0
Lost In The Dream: one of my all-time favorites, damn near perfect album, also Suffering is one of my top songs by the band, 5.0
A Deeper Understanding: exceptional album on its own terms, but kinda suffers when compared to Lost In The Dream, given there's not a ton of progression, 4.5
I Don't Live Here Anymore: feels much more inconsistent than the last few, but there's still plenty of magic, probably say this is slightly weaker than Slave Ambient overall but it may grow on me, 4.0 (for now)

The last two minutes of I Don’t Wanna Wait are peak ‘80s
Think I’d probably rate all the first six here 4.5+

Album is amazing just takes about 2-3 listens to hit you and it settles in beautifully. Essentially it’s a tighter “A Deeper Understanding” and has elements of Lost In A Dream and I love those two albums. There is really something really special about this band..

Disappearing, Eyes to the Wind, and An Ocean Between the Waves are probably my top 3. Funny that not only are they all on the same album, but one after the other too.

First listen and my standout is Wasted - as it stands, pleasant stuff but that’s about where it begins and ends
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
I forgot 'Wasted' is the most 'pop' song here - if that one grows on me enough, plus the closer people rave about too, then maybe aoty potential for me.
Turnstile might even take it right now...let's say the position is open with two months to go.

The two ballads on side B are sort of just there for me right now - that's the biggest weakness for me at the moment
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
Really enjoying the tighter arrangements - A Deeper Understanding was a little too meandering and noodling for me - had to be in the right mood (although there are brilliant moments all through it).
Harmonica's Dream, Victim and Wasted are bliss. Old Skin feels a little too much; like a tribute band trying to write a song that is the quintessential War on Drugs song...
With time, this could end up being my favourite TWOD album.

I Don't Wanna Wait / Victim / I Don't Live Here Anymore is their best ever run of three songs I think, definitely rate all three of those top marks
Even better than Best Night / Brother / I Was There
Yeah, I'd say overall this is my favourite War on Drugs, not ashamed to say I like their catchy side the best ;)
The closest to a modern 'Full Moon Fever' as we're gonna get and FMF is a hard 5 lest we forget, RIP Tom Petty

After a few spins I agree that is the best run here Doof. I think Pain -> Holding On -> Strangest Thing still stands as their best run overall though.
