what a sell out.
Hot Topic is no longer carrying their merch cause of some deal FOB made with Aeropostale.
It involves buying the shirt for 14 bucks and getting the CD for free.
This is a complete departure from the Fall Out Boy sound, which was mediocre in the first place.
The production really really bothers me. Sounds like garbage through headphones. Mostly made for cheap car stereos with too much bass.
(what bothers me even more is that one of their top tags on last.fm is "indie")
I actually saw Fall Out Boy live not too long ago, and I was surrounded by billions of immature 13-year-olds.
Then they booed The Early November while they were playing.

who cares what some website classifies them as, the indie fans would be as offended as you are.
although i agree the band members have become complete douchebags.

For real, I don't get the hype about this band at all. I mean, witty lyricisms aside, they do absolutely nothing new. Not a thing. And finding a tasteful/sarcastic way to say "whoa my band is teh shizz" isn't innovation, nor is it clever. Sorry but I'm not 15 anymore. I'm tired of all the break-up songs and the faux-ironic songs about the "scene" (a hypothetical panel of hipsters/schmucks dictating fashion onto a music genre that's claims to shun the flavor of the week, that in all reality shouldn't affect ANYONE'S outlook on music). Not to mention the guys in the band are arrogant, rich elitist pricks that insult the very people that buy their records. I mean let's remember that a scant two years ago, they were the very same "minimum-wage factory workers" that stole records from their favorite bands like every other dude that ever had a computer and a CD collection. And now that they might loose approximately $5 per CD out of the literal MILLIONS they make, they bitch about it?
And I know they're catchy. Like syphilis, actually. But are they automatically good solely because they follow a hook-based simple formula with EVERY song dumbed-down to appeal to the lowest common denominator? They all cash in at about that 3:30 mark if you don't notice. And they claim to be ten bands at once, musically ... I mean whoa they put a double-bass riff into a song! Now they're death metal! (quoted from Pete Wentz)
Sorry for the rant but this band irritates me to no end. If you like pop-punk with twists, clever lyrics, and actual musical sophistication (and hooks!), listen to Gatsbys American Dream, Matchbook Romance, Lifetime, NOFX, Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Good Riddance, Jawbreaker, Green Day, even friggin' Yellowcard. This is a great present for a little sister, though.

So you take what Pete Wentz has said and pin it on the whole band?

^^ Well, it's not like they come out and set it straight if they disagree. And Wentz IS their media mouthpiece, lyricist, and songwriter, so yeah I can say that he basically speaks for the band.
|
| |
^I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they break up/kick Wentz out, and then Wentz going out and saying he wanted to "broaden his musical abilities, which is why I left."
I strongly dislike him. They just need to get someone new.

So it's snobbish to call this album a pop-album geared mainly towards 13-year olds? Nope. That's exactly what it is. This could have been a great pop album, but it's weighed down by huge amounts of mediocre filler, just like 90% of these bands. You want a GOOD pop album? Get Purple Rain, or Thriller, or Nevermind.
I guess if I said I liked a Backstreet Boys album because of its infectious melodies (which they do have), I would be a queer though, right? But these guys play five chords fast and it's automatically better/more credible than any other disposable teen sensation? Puhlease.
|
| |
Nevermind is definitely awesome!
