antihippy has a point actually, the artwork has the same sort of color scheme Phantom Limb makes use of.

Oh well, cool album, my opinion of it may change though.

I agree with DFelon here, this is really uninspired and generic sounding.

Great album, love paradox with flies. Though I must say (and this might piss some people off) Dakest Hour are completely unable to be melodic death simply because they're americans. Melodic Death is a european style of music and if there's an american band sounding like it, then they're something else (probably metalcore)...

(not that metalcores bad)

(but still)

Deliver Us is one of the best, most refreshing metal albums to be released in quite a while. It's great to finally hear an American metal band pull of that trademark Gothenburg sound with style. Blurring the lines between American hardcore-influenced-metal and Swedish melodeath metal, Darkest Hour is the premier metal band from the states.

Everything from the lyrics to Henry's vocals (really add to the atmosphere Townsend helped create) to the much-improved musicianship screams epic. Everyone who is a fan of Gothenburg music OR American metalcore (even though to call Darkest Hour a metalcore band would be blasphemy) should definitely check out Deliver Us, the best release so far this year.

Best tracks: A Paradox with Flies, Deliver Us, Doomsayer, Fire in the Sky, The Light at the Edge of the World, and TUNGUSKA

This is pretty tight from the first couple listens. Seems more consistant to me than Undoing Ruin did.

you're right, i am "biased!" but how can you be biased towards something like music? darkest hour isn't competing with any other acts are they? for that matter, is any band competing with another for some award or something? i was just claiming my PERSONAL opinions on the matter. are they fueled by my liking of the band? yes.

but shouldn't that be of more importance? because undoing ruin set such high standards, i was going into this album with a more critical ear. one could even argue my enjoyment of the METAL GENRE influences my perception of music. and to an extent, it does.

btw, how is darkest hour classified as metalcore? by definition, a lot of bands are metalcore, but there are evident shades of gray that should be addressed, such as what cultural context you're perceiving a band in.

as for my name, undoing ruin has always stuck since the album came out, and i use it for pretty much all my online aliases. from my counter-strike tag to my forum user name, i always use it.

am i some HUGE fanboy that spends all my time listening to darkest hour? nope. in fact, i haven't listened to undoing ruin in about a year until hype for deliver us began to roll on.

Yet your user name is Undoing Ruin? How could that not be made by a Darkest Hour fanboy? Not to mention your first comment was on this album. Darkest Hour is an average American metalcore band who try and be like European bands but fall very short of it. This band is nothing more than a NWoAHM band who only dreams about making songs with such musicianship and songwriting ability that their fellow, better, European counterparts have mastered.

did you not read my last post...i clearly acknowledge and address my reasoning for choosing the name. as for you my first comments being on this album, deliver us is one of the first albums to catch my ear in a while. call me lazy, but nothing really warranted a reason to sign up for this site until something came out where i felt i could write about it.

i'm not a darkest hour fanboy...i just love their music. a fanboy would be someone that always listens to the band's music, has posters of them on the wall, goes to see them live whenever they are in their state, and writes their lyrics on their schoolbooks. i do nothing of the sort.

there are plenty of european bands i prefer over darkest hour: dark tranquillity, in flames, soilwork, at the gates, and the haunted, to name a few. i never stated darkest hour surpasses any of these bands in anyway. i simply praised their ability to blur the lines between two very distinct genres.

deliver us is one of the only releases FROM AMERICA that has succeeded at faithfully integrating gothenburg sound with american core. i'm not trying to start up controversy...i'm just giving my opinion that darkest hour did a fantastic job with deliver us by maturing a hell of a lot. and in my opinion, they are one of the best metal acts from america. i like to listen to a lot of music, so i don't say to myself, "these european bands have mastered this style of musicianship and songwriting ability so why should i listen to anything else grouped into this genre!?!?!?" i just listen, and i have my opinions on what i hear.

ehh they are metalcore, but they are metalcore that is very close to melodic death.

and this is one of the few metalcore bands i can listen to without wanting to cringe. i like this album.

and seriously, if you say devin townsend did hardly anything for this record, you are daft beyond all reasoning. you can hear his unmistakable production work on every song on this cd.

and this is a good album but far from best metal release of the year. besides, the year is only half over.
