Whatever happened to John Hanson's review last night...???

I definitely agree with the "Bad Religion Syndrome" comment. Even on TSTW the songs in the middle of the album can blend together if you're not paying attention. Great songs, but not too much distinguishes them. Rise Against songs have to grow on you because of this.
I am sort of debating whether to buy this album, although I really liked TSTW, so I probably will get this eventually.

To all who think this thing gets bashed because of Tim singing: I personally have no problem with Tim singing, it's all cool on TS&TW, but it just falls behind on this one. Singing is fine, it does not have to be screaming all the time. But when you sing, please don't make it sound like you're just there, getting a job done you don't want to do.

Tim's screaming on Ready To Fall pretty much makes that song.
And State of The Union couldn't work with clean vocals.
Just sayin', is all.

Well it goes without saying that this album is completely different from what most have grown to expect from Rise Against. That naturally appeals to some and dissapoints others. The thing I have always loved about Rise Against is just how unique Tim's voice is. I usually hate screaming but for some reason always enjoyed how his raspy style can just ignite the crap out of you. I understand that many like the new direction he has taken by becoming more melodic, but this sort of bland melody is something I can get by listening to countless other bands. No other bands, however, can give that same sound I had previously becomed accustomed to from RA and for that reason I am really bummed out by the majority of the album. The few good songs on the album are awesome, however, and I guess I'll appreciate it for that.

I don't see this album as the beginning of the end for the band or something like that. I see it as a more explicit view of the new road they have taken with their music. Now they have to figure out how to do more consistent and overall better music in this road. They proved they can do awesome songs like Savior and Whereabouts Unknown, now they need to do tracks like that in a more consistent way, like they did in their previous albums.

Pretty good CD, I still like The Sufferer and the Witness better, though.

After a couple listens I'm liking this...not as much as their previous stuff but its still pretty ok...Hero Of War is pretty awful though...

Album rocks, everyone pretty much just expected another Sufferer.

I didn't expect another Sufferer, I expected another album as awesome as Sufferer. In that particular detail this album failed. Although I admit my expectations were pretty high.

This is great, but I just KNOW Rise Against can challenge themselves and go one further.

I kind of did as well, but then I realized there's pretty much no way they could top it.This Message Edited On 10.21.08

^ What NINJUICE said. I've given it 3 listens & it's probably going to be a 4 rating for me eventually. 'Sufferer' grew on me so much, so I'm going to give this a chance as well.
I'm calling it now though; SAVIOR IS THE SONG OF 2008!

^ Well, something has to be for everyone & I can't see anything topping it for me in the 10 weeks we have left this year. Great lyrics, great sound, catchy as, yet still rocks hard.
