This is better than Vector and Affinity, agreed.

Streams and Celestial Elixir are the still the best things these dudes have done

but people are mad because they put death/doom section in Streams, how could they ruin something so perfect?
Jk, I love it myself. Lots of people seem to have problem with how they approach changing the mood in this song but it's great, especially on remastered edition, truly added depth to these growls. And final act of the song is straight up top notch

This and "Crystallized" are tied for my favorite closer of theirs.

From their lenghty songs I actually prefer earthlings, but CE is not far behind

Streams is one of the most perfect songs out there. I don't think a more fun prog song exists

Haken is one of my favorite groups currently, and I absolutely do not understand the love for this album. This was my first from Haken and I almost blacklisted them until I heard The Mountain. Easily their weakest behind Affinity. Some cool moments are the only thing keeping this from being flat-out average.

The attempt at Genesis-type quirkiness just falls on its face.

Well it is a little bit nostalgia thing. I initialy heard this album in 2013 when 14 year old me just started to explore music and this was one of the first albums that really stuck. If I heard it for the first time now it'd probably be more of a 4 thing especially since releases similiar to this got much more common.
Still it does deserve some recognition, they did create their own identity already on their first disc which is less obvious than most people think. Look at Leprous, while their releases from Bilateral onward were all really great on their own rights, TPS and their demo do kinda sound like Opeth rip-off. Besides, celestial elixir holds up really well and there's a reason why shittons of people who found them by Mountain state it's the best thing Haken has ever done

Yeah this was one of the first modern prog albums I ever listened to. Idk it just doesn't stick the way The Mountain and Vector does. Everyone calls it a spectacular debut but I just don't see it.

Agreed with you Ledd. But, it still an important one by this band just for the fact that it is their first & the band exceptionnel musicianship is already apparent.

"TPS... kinda sound[s] like Opeth"
Tall Poppy Syndrome's one of Leprous' best, miles more interesting than Coal or The Congregation

each to their own. I dig Bilateral, Congregation and Malina, sure on top of my favourite albums of the decade if not ever

Gonna have to stop you right there, Porcupine. TPS was great but not nearly as focused and original as Coal.
The Congregation could go either way for me, though. I frequently flip-flop on that album.
