I said this was the best EP of '11 so far, not the best

Although in my opinion it actually is...well it's close, it is up there with The Decemberists, Iron & Wine, and Papercranes

So how good, exactly, is The King Is Dead? I think that negative review from Downer (was it?) kinda turned me off from giving it a shot. Thoughts, guys?

*looks meaningfully at SS, the veritable fountain of great new music*

I'm sure you read my review, so I'm not going to rehash the whole thing, but basically if you have heard of the Decemberists before it will take some getting used to. If not, you might get into more quickly. It's acoustic indie folk with a country sway. It's not immediately engaging or very catchy all the time, but it's extremely pretty (esp. January Hymn, my song of the year so far) and it sounds so natural, like it was what The Decemberists were born to do. I dunno I'm not saying blindly purchase it, but it is definitely worth one or two full listens.

Hmmm, okay. I've never heard The Decemberists before, so it sounds like the album should be right up my street (haha that sentence was a tad counter-intuitive, no? LOL).

In any case, I'll see if I can hunt down a stream somewhere. Failing that, I'll just download (illegally, unfortunately) for the time being and if I find that I like it, a purchase will be immediately forthcoming.

Thanks SS!

I respect you a shit ton for not illegally downloading music, but man is the straight-edge music lifestyle not for me!

It can get very trying, trust me. And I have buckled under the pressure quite a few times =(

See, it is illegal, but I know for a fact I've bought more music because of it.

Especially the more obscure bands that I would never have found out about otherwise.

It's a song, Irving. An amazing song. On an album called Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. That you should have heard. So hear it. !
