"Sounds like the Graduate only with less cheesy and better lyrics and a more enjoyable vocalist(at least for me). On the other hand there is no song which is half as great as For the Missing, but still... this is pretty damn amazing. Something between 4 and 4.5 right now although I am not into pop-punkish sound usually. War Paint, Miscommunication and Waves are outstanding."
Well said overall & I agree with practically all of it. The simple reason why I like The Graduate's final album more than this is that there are about 3-4 songs on that album that I feel are more catchy/memorable/fun than the best song on here. Our best tracks on this album are practically the same.
The lyrics are definitely better here... As for the vocals, I do think AJ is better than The Graduate's. He' s definitely more distinctive. I just wish he would change it up a little more, like he does on 'Work In Progress.

I don't think AJ is the better vocalist, I just like his voice a little bit more. In every other aspect we are on the same page. I even agree with the 3-4 stand out songs you mention in the "Only every Time" Review. (For the Missing, Don't Die Digging etc.)
I think in the end both LPs will be a 4 for me, this may grow into a 4.5 I just don't know jet.

Yep, and then it comes down to personal tastes. I guess that I just wish that some of these songs were hookier & more memorable. But as Knott said in his review, that isn't really the point of the album.

checked out the recommended tracks, they sounded pretty good. i'll pick this up.

Like I said, it's a pretty consistent bunch of tracks too. Ask 8 different people what their favorite track is here & you could very well get 8 different answers.

Needs to be "Best New Music."

I Love this! It's the perfect amount of pop without being sticky sweet. This will be a welcome companion on my Twin Cities trip this weekend. Great review too!

good not great. the lyrics aren't on par with RFTS imo, and its so-so in terms of the songs themselves

This is a strange album for trolls to pick on.
Thanks fractured. And I agree with your thoughts. As you state, this is definitely not "sticky sweet".
I think Sowing's comments just proves that if one does not get into the lyrics, then the album lacks genuine hooks to keep people listening. Although, I think this is one album which people could return to months/years later & feel differently about.

I'm guessing it's either (a) the sincerity & passion, or (b) AJ's voice.

Still waiting on my pre-order to arrive to give this a listen. It's getting tougher and tougher every day I check the mailbox and it's not there. I may just give in and dl it. Living in Canada sucks sometimes.

Same over here. Album feels flat, too monotonous for me. Again I want to like nice pop punk but I can't.

"goddammit, i want to like this because its catchy pop punk without the annoying vocals and shitty lyrics, but something is missing."
Are you certain you think it's catchy?
I actually think Nick's criticism of it feeling "monotonous" (maybe even "monotone") will be valid for some people. I do think they could/should have changed it up a little (as I mentioned in the review.

'Like I said, it's a pretty consistent bunch of tracks too. Ask 8 different people what their favorite track is here & you could very well get 8 different answers.'
Best description I heard/read for 'consistency' in the last eight years or so..good read too Davey, although I am not the greatest fan of lyrics in a review. (Even I can perfectly understand your motivation to do so here.)
By the way: my favourite tracks are Work In Progress, Everyone Left, In My Room but by far - I Should Leave Right Now. So powerful, hopeful and heartfelt altogether...incredible.

Thanks. And yeah, I'm not usually a fan of quoting lyrics in a review (although I've got into a habit of putting an "interesting" line as a footnote of late), but this just begged for it.
