I agree. But they don't offer the same experience, so it's hard to compare.

this thread is so fucked up it's not even funny

i don't think it's relevant to talk here about prog metal bands that have been around for like 30 years

First spin, completely phased this out. I was hearing music, but also not hearing anything at the same time. Had it on a few times since and this album does have a couple of decent moments.
I hated Fever because of the lyrics- "take off your high heel shoes, and rip off all your clothes. You smell so fucking good, it makes me lose control" being just one example.
Temper Temper was horrific.
Lyrics here aren't much better, but the tunes are.
I wouldn't say this is a return to 'The Poison' at all though, I hear plenty of 'Scream Aim Fire', 'Fever' and 'Temper Temper' in there. 'Army Of Noise' is pretty much SAF + 'Fever'.
'Venom' is probably my favourite track from this.
I can't get into 'Worthless' because the bit in the middle sounds identical to 'Miseria Cantare' by AFI.

"They're better musicians now than they were."
Instrumentally there might be some improvement, but as musicians their creative progression is about as evident and interesting as watching paint dry. When you buy a bullet album, you literally get what you pay for.
And I like their early work.

They were never great, but to my young ears songs like 'Hand Of Blood', 'Just Another Star', 'Her Voice Resides' were heavy and catchy in equal measure.
This just falls flat and lacks the punch that stuff had, this style really only suits a young band's first album rather than guys in their mid thirties putting out their fifth.

I heard those 2 new Trivium songs and they're a lot more interesting than this, as far as 2005 nostalgia goes.

I like some parts in this and "No Way Out" is decent and all but most of this is generic radio metal that's been out there for the past 15 years at this point. If they really want to make the best metal album then thew need to cut the bullshit and mature.

Poison was a decent album and derserves some merit - it doesn't deserve all the hate but I'm also not gonna big it up tooooooo much

I don't hate The Poison, it's just not a great album.

"I don't hate The Poison, it's just not a great album."
I just mean the hate in general buddy
"I just want to forget that BFMV tried to make "Tears Don't Fall Pt. 2"
...... I must confess I actually didn't mind it.. But it was a VERY thinly veiled attempt at recapturing the magic that's for sure

The Poison did a great job at mixing just the right amount of mass appeal and heaviness and this album does a decent job too
