I actually liked it a lot, and I say that as someone who loved the original. The remake is obviously not as good, sure, but I'm glad they didn't replicate the original beat-by-beat in terms of combat, dialogue, etc.

i do love 8 for nostalgia reasons, especially the music, but the magic junction system and the way limit breaks worked made it sooooooooooo stupidly easy

7's only flaw is the materia system invalidates playing characters that aren't your favorite and the remake fixes that by giving characters their own special traits. 9 is really solid and I don't have that many complaints. FF doesn't really have stinkers until the more recent ones.

the remake actually does not have any party selection at all - your party is dictated at all times
as for the original, I don't really see how having parts of the game where you're allowed to form a party of three of your choosing from the cast of characters provided is a flaw... the game isn't making you do anything - it isn't the game's fault you choose Cait Sith and Red XIII as your teammates every time you get the chance

for me, it was VII and X
