Listen to Ahead of Ourselves. It’s his most aggressive track in a long time.

As good or better than Fragile from the sounds of this review? I'm so in on this!

"If I didn't enjoy Hesitation Marks at all, any chance I'll end up liking this? "
It's basically the opposite, so yes.

Apparently I need to give this more time. I personally dislike any sort of trumpets, saxophones and stuff but that shouldn't influence the rating. Maybe the live gig on Monday in Berlin will change my mind

Trent said that he and Atticus wrote a brand new NIN song for the Twin Peaks: The Return soundtrack, but they ended up going with She's Gone Away. I would not be surprised if God Break Down the Door was the song they wrote for it, because it fits the soundtrack and vibe of that series perfectly.

Eh it’s a little too energetic to be a Twin Peaks track, it’s certainly off-kilter and quite uncanny though so I understand what you’re getting at.

Several of the songs played at the roadhouse were fairly energetic. Not to mention since David Bowie was in Fire Walk with Me, the fact that it's basically a tribute to him would make even more sense in context.

Definitely has a Bowie vibe yeah, otherworldly atmosphere almost.

I still think Not the Actual Events is the best EP in the trilogy.

NtAE it's probably the most solid, consistent EP. My thing with this one is that it's incredibly different and forward thinking. It brings something fresh to NIN's table, while revisiting some of their best work.

I overrated NTAE and underrated Add Violence on first listen I think. The former is a great first listen but wears thin quick apart from She's Gone Away, whereas the Lovers and This Isn't the Place are on par with most of this

she's gone away is maybe my fav song from the whole trilogy. the opener to NTAE is the only thing off that EP that really grew off me. add violence is ok but not much sticks out

This Isn't The Place from Add Violence I love, but yeah the rest isn't his best

This definitely sounds like songs from The Fragile era. There's a lot of atmosphere on these tracks. And I agree with the remark about "God Break Down The Door" being both a Bowie tribute and the Twin Peaks song.

I actually have a slightly preference for Hesitation Marks but I think I've really come to like the rather subdued sound of that whole album.
