idk why everyone was hating the production on here so much, sounds better than purple tbh.

I can’t listen to this on headphones or tinny speakers but I pulled it up on my living room system and it’s a bit more tolerable; the guitars are still a bit washed out but having a dedicated sub makes the drums and bass a bit easier to separate, and sitting some distance from the speakers mitigates my perception of a little of the clipping (yay for damaged hearing I guess).

Y'know I can give a tentative cosign to "sounds better than purple", I think the punchier ROCK-ness of that album makes the blown-out guitars just feel wrong whereas a lot of this is more just... weird. Like the opener gives the bass SO much room and SO much overdrive that the guitars are barely even there- definitely "off", but easier to accept as an intentional choice ig

man I'm so glad they're self-producing now, Baroness working with Dave Fridmann and the results being SO far below par feels like a plot twist written to hurt me specifically

“power trio trying to make their mark and prove themselves behind a frontman who's been around the block and found his sound and is mostly content to stick with it” is such a good way of putting it. Hard agree. I never thought I’d see the day where JDB was the limiting factor in Baroness, but here we are.

Maybe I spoke too soon- Beneath the Rose is WEIRD, and possibly maybe potentially their best song in a decade maybe

Fuck Beneath the Rose is cool as shit and again doesn't sound like complete diarrhea. I'm excited for this release.

It sounds great production-wise but I'm afraid it's not clicking with me

It's a bit flat and dark compared to red or blue or yellow or green but is definitely made of solid stuff

edit: Stone. It's Stone.

New one good! Kind of a wonky first half but yeah plenty of quality tunes

Early impressions: the singles ended up being my least favorite songs, and the ones that I least expected from them are among my favorite Baroness songs of the last three records (the second half is so good!)
