I love about half of this: Ashley, Clementine, the Dominic and Alanis interludes, Killing Boys and 929. Hate the guitar-centric pop songs, on the other hand; I think her melodies are best when it feels like she's not really trying, just kinda throwing things out there. She's particularly bad at choruses IMO.

It's no surprise this record comes off as tryhard--that's how Halsey has always been, after all. Despite her artsy-fartsiness, the tri-bi songstress had always managed to offer good records... until 'Manic', which fails to explore its interesting concept and ends up feeling like a lame collection of unfinished and forgettable songs.
