Seasons Apart has to be one of my favorite openers on a metal album. Lisa gets this album off to a great start. Her vocals are amazing on this.

Tristania- Beyond The Veil for more black/ gothic than doom/gothic. Remembrance for a funeral doom version of this, also with female vocals. Virgin Black, and The Sins Of Thy beloved. The Third And The Mortal as well.

Hopefully the male vocalist is done with his side project and they can move on to attempting to top this album.

what's it called? also I doubt Draconian will be able to top this. Are any of their other albums anywhere near as awesome as this?

In my opinion, their debut Where Lovers Mourn is the only one that comes close (and not that close). His side project is called Doom:VS. There are reviews for both of their albums on this site (search for DoomVS... basically the band name without the colon).

but isn't Doom:VS the guitarist's side project?

Well, to be honest, I wasn't sure and had to look it up. You are right. I always just assumed that since the guitar player for this band was doing vocals on the Doom:VS stuff (and he sounds exactly like the guy from Draconian) that he was the same person doing vocals for both bands.

I just read that Paul Kuhr from Novembers Doom did guest vocals on this album but I couldn't tell which tracks he was on. Also the bonus track No Greater Sorrow is pretty good.

I didn't know that either. Unfortunately, a lot of these death growls sound pretty similar and I never even noticed that there might be any guest vocalists. I can say that if you like this and have never heard "Velvet Darkness They Fear" by Theatre of Tragedy then you should check it out.

He didn't do any growls. He just did some spoken word bits.

Anders Jacobsson does the harsh vocals in this band, Johan Ericsson does the very rare male clean vocals (but also harsh vocals in Doom:VS), and Paul Kuhr just did narration on this album
