That's my least fav, but it still rules.

Viva is worse for me. TD is good, real catchy. Following up Discouraged Ones was no easy task though.

VE was when I really started getting in to them (Burn the Rememberance!), so that album holds a special place, and Inside the City of Glass is crushing.

Always thought of TD as a better version of DO personally. I consider DO to be a sweet album but I'm on the "weak =/= depressive" team to an extent.

This album feels so safe compared to previous releases

Couple of tracks yeah but as a whole that's a completely crazy statement for me.

How is that anywhere near "completely crazy"

Because I don't see how most of the material could be deemed as safe, it seems like an evolution of the band's music to me. I can totally see how it could be tiresome and boring, for sure, but safe? I respectfully disagree there, man.

Mongi123, if you think this is 'safer' than DEK, I don't know which albums you're listening to. This has far more interesting melodies imo, and some pretty unusual bridges.

This album filled my Opeth void way better than the last 2 Opeth albums.

Dead End Kings sounded like a watered down outtakes session of Night is the New Day tunes. This sounds like a band interested in writing music again. There's enough differentiation here with their past few releases to keep this fresh and interesting - in the longer songs especially.

First four songs on DEK still have a undeniable gravity for me that I have rarely felt anywhere else.
