I always thought of those "a-cappela space shanties" as negro spirituals since you know, the album very obviously leans in that direction. but maybe I was wrong.

Very atmospheric but the dude's delivery isn't on point for a lot of it.

The singing on Break the Glass ruins the whole thing for me

Iirc, I love Break the Glass a lot because of how different the singing is compared to the rest.

Been listening to this a lot, and I completely disagree with Daveed not being charismatic enough. A lot of the narration needs that kind of distance; which is something that's permeated much of the group's work, and I think works for most of the tracks. It feels curious and uncertain towards the beginning, and grows more urgent as the album progresses. Perhaps it's a bit too subtle (or even nonexistent), but the cold delivery I find intriguing and somewhat formidable at the very least.

That said, the terrible singing on A Better Place almost ruins the song, intentional or not.

Y'all really have some strange hate for this album lmao. Don't hate on it just cause you think it'll be mediocre or you don't like musicals. That's some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

Daveed should just write short stories tbh. Or direct short films. I wanna see this as a short film

Daveed Diggs is such an amazing lyricist, not only does he rap about butts and guns, he ALSO added ufos to his repertoire
