what an insane release day. here's my initial thoughts on the new records
Haley Heynderickx - Beguiling, stirring music that blossoms with each listen. Stunner. (4.1)
Anna von Hausswolff - Swans meets Cocteau Twins. Smoldering and ethereal in equal measure. (4.0+)
Soccer Mommy - Charming, witty indie pop tunes. She's gaining strength with every release. (3.7)
Lucy Dacus - Blatantly solid, will find many fans, but it ain't grabbing me. Tentative for now.

About 2/3 through Anna right now, it’s ok but not mind-blowing. Likely moving on to Haley once I’m done with that.

On Haley: Ah, I see we have another Angel Olsen clone. But I guess we can’t blame her too much for that. Songwriting seems strong, and Worth It is a very strong centerpiece but perhaps dominates the album a bit too much. I’ll have to give it a few listens to be sure but I don’t think it’ll go above a 3.5 - not that that’s a bad thing!

Glad I’m not the only one who hears the similarities to Angel Olsen. In “Worth It” especially! But she’s also quite unique in her own right imo
Excited to hear these others as well, damn. what a release day [2]

Worth It is stunning, reminded me of the slowburners on My Woman but a bit closer to the style of Burn Your Fire For No Witness.

Still processing it but The Greater Wings is most likely better than this. The central theme of immense loss really adds a lot of weight

I'm jamming it right now and I feel it's indeed better than this one but at the same time it's thicker, more opaque, quite difficult to get into it. This one feels less complicated and more engaging on first listens. The new one will take time to sink in.
