CUT MY THROAT AND THROW ME TO THE WOLVES

I'M JUST TOO TIRED, TOO TIRED TO RELOAD

DON'T NEED YOUR TEARS, I DON'T NEED YOUR LOVE

DON'T NEED YOUR SYMPATHY, I AM ABOVE

Suprinsingly, I find their softer songs (follow me + the 2 album closers) to be better than the rest of the album. The heavy songs in here are terribly written, with uninteresting riffs and clean vocals forced into them, with no breating room. The softer ones do at least kinda work. Voices and burn are the 2 only heavy songs I see myself getting back to.

As a life long in flames fan it’s been a bitter pill to swallow listening to crap like battles etc but to be fair, this album isn’t awful. I understand the outstanding hate/anger and thus won’t complain about any ratings here - rate it what you want even if it’s motivated by emotion. This album has been like a sigh of relief for me, this band died when battles was released, but this album gives me hope (our fundamental weakness as human beings) and therefore, I’ll treat it as a single entity. 3.5 might be a push but as others have stated - there are a few tracks that shouldn’t have made the light of day on this album. It feels too much like they tried to cater for all audiences and kind of fish for hits etc.

Another motivation to giving this a 3.5 is the accessibility. Unlike going full blown pop like eg bmth, they’ve managed to create an accessible sound that isn’t entirely uninspired or dedicated to the fans. This means more younglings who haven’t dabbled in the metal arts all that much have something to get them into it. Hate it as much as you like but if it wasn’t for albums like this and soft metal bands I would have never delved into metal. Hopefully this album attracts metal hopefuls and they take the opportunity to listen to old in flames while they’re at it and potentially create even greater work themselves.

Essentially, I’m just content. This is not exactly the album I was hoping for but what I was expecting was way worse. I’ve accepted the in flames I loved is no more, but I guess they have a new role now and I’m okay with it. Time to let go and hope that something great comes out of their exposure to younger generations.

^^ yuh, this isn't bad at all. clearly nothing mindblowing but it's nice to hear them added back some melodeath elements and anders may sound a bit processed in the clean vocal department, but at least there are some catchy harmonies

"catchy harmonies"

I agree they did step it back up on this album with the harmonies, and there are some pretty great guitar solos on here. This album really isn't terrible. I think it's certainly an improvement from Siren's Charms and maybe a little better than Battles. It doesn't do a whole lot for me, but I also don't hate it.

The end of Stay with Me is the best thing they've written since the Clayman album.

lol no, best thin they've probably done in the past 15 years was A New Dawn off of Sounds of a Playground Fading, and even that is okay at best.

The riff at the beginning of the song Voices got me excited but ultimately its more of the same old same old.

But after spinning it twice now I think its better than most of their stuff they have put out in the last 10 years.

Wow...it's like I can't have an opinion or something. And A New Dawn is vastly overrated as well.

Stay With Me is interesting because it's not really the dime-a-dozen alt ballad we've gotten from these guys, and honest to god the acoustics reminded me of "Pallar Anders Visa" before Anders started singing.

Throw in some variety, much better lyrics, and some experimentation this could have been a solid alt metal record. The lyrics are just so cringe inducing and so many of these songs sound the same. Plus the screaming makes no sense with this style. There’s nothing honestly all too abysmal about this, it actually has parts I like, but there’s just nothing good about it.

Not hearing the "cringe" aside from some cheesy lines on "Follow Me", the horrendous "(This Is Our) House", and maybe "We Will Remember". This album actually has a few songs I had to add to my playlist specifically for emotional music. Namely the last three tracks.
