^lol
I actually didn't think they were overdone. the horn sections are more creative and fleshed out than before

Yeah since Bittersweet the horn parts are pretty unique, especially considering the "pop punk side project" label

Damn, this is great. Might be Soupy's best work. He's a great storyteller and some of the lyrics here are heavy as fuck. Definitely feels like one of those that'll grow even more on repeated listens

I'm glad he made this and it's a good listen but I'm just having trouble connecting to it. doesn't have the same weight of memory that We Don't Have Each Other did to me, and honestly it felt like the story could have ended with Bittersweet (one of his best ever releases imo)
but the name bridge of Runnin' got me feeling things for sure

Yeah I don't think this is all that great tbh - 3.5 ish because I love Soupy but generous

'67 Cherry Red is still my favourite song under this moniker, the whole bridge section gives me full chills every time

"This guy named Robert calls
And said he used to have that car at 23
Last year his wife passed on
He's got memories of love in the backseat
He takes the wheel and grins
He gets the same look in his eyes you always did
He can't afford what I want for it
But says it was nice to see a car like this, again"
fucking incredible writing. the last few lines of Green Like the G Train are top tier Soupy too. I need to bump my rating for that EP

If the songs of young love hum like an engine in your head, I got what you need: 67 cherry red

Speaking of The Mountain Goats. Have you heard Soupy's and Ace Enders cover of Broom People? It was off last year's various artists album "Songs That Saved My Life", it was an album for suicide prevention. It's on Spotify . https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songs_That_Saved_My_Life
Had some good versions of originals.
Here is Broom People

Runnin' Towards the Light will undoubtedly be my song of the summer. Love it so much.

saw him last night. great show. "bury me anywhere else" straight into "going to georgia" was awesome. EVERYBODY was singing along to every song.

What was his performing in character like? That whole idea is fascinating to me.

It was interesting. He talked about his "nephew" and dedicated a song to him. We all applauded as if the nephew is a real person. Very strange experience.

Just reiterated the fact that I would love to see him actually write a stage show. I think he can progress stories well enough with his lyrics that a musical would be entirely possible from him.

This album keeps getting better as the year goes on imo. Probably my AOTY so far. I'd love to see this live.

Might be the act I most want to see live currently. He's in St. Louis the week for a lease on my place starts there, so unfortunately can't get down in time. Hopefully a second tour happens in support of this album!
