“ You can, just start a hardcore band with a small, but loyal following and over the next decade gradually experiment with pop elements. Then when the time comes and you have the attention of pitchfork and QOTSA, turn your back on your small, but loyal followers and go for the big $$$”
Fwiw they’ve said they make no profit from this band. Don’t know if that true, but idk why they’d lie about it.

Yeah, I’d say that was a believable scenario. The music industry has completely changed over the last 15 years or so… very few acts now make the “big $$$”, and out of those that do, I’d be incredibly surprised if The Armed were one of them.

Yeah no shot they make a substantial amount of money off this, especially when there’s like fucking 9 core members.
They’ve always done what they wanna do and I respect it. People felt kinda the same way going from Untitled to Only Love, like they were cashing out somehow.
Like guys, they might be touring with QOTSA but they’re not making QOTSA money lol

I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I was going to based on the singles and the general reception it's getting here.
I don't think it's quite as good as their previous 3 albums by any metric though sadly

For the record that was a joke, I'm not saying they're making any real money at the moment, but there's no denying they're making big plays right now. They are for sure trying to see how big they can get with this and there's no shame in that.

Listened to this twice while mowing the lawn and tbh almost everything in the first half is great fun. A lot of my bug bears come in part 2.

Second half is definitely more laid back, definitely see how that wouldn’t translate well for mowing in summer

the last three is my favorite run of the album honestly. Liar 2 and Public Grieving are really the only tracks on the record that could kick it with the their last two records. Maybe Clone and Modern Vanity too.

The first half of this sounds just like Ultrapop but without everything that made it sound special, the production is just so bare and flat here
Live I imagine the first half will still be great
I just don’t like the end of this especially Liar 2, the intro lyrics make me shudder

I don't mind the production for the most part but there's some head-scratching production choices here and there. Like why make all the instruments so muddy during the Clone chorus? Almost kills the momentum of the song
