I think he masked his inabilities as a producer with LOUD NOISES and it kind of worked for him; here his greatest idea is to loop a really boring vocal sample and pitch shift it into oblivion.

Pretty much agree, though I'm really glad you pulled other comparisons besides Burial.

And spot on about meaning newer trap artists, they're really popular here.

@TheBrostepGuy - Didn't you see the news about Floss stealing ideas and tracks from a UK Hardcore group? He really isn't to be admired imo, especially now.

Is there even such thing as good Skrillex?

He's a cut and paste producer and nothing more, all of his signature womps and squeals were just from a sample pack, some guy in a dubstep forum posted the pack which had all of the samples he used in his first couple EP's, all he's done is arranged and changed the pitches. I'd really like to watch him try and take a simple sine wave and turn it into a proper sub

Welcome to the production scene, would you like to pirate Ableton, Pro Tools, or use Maschine?

Not all producers do that, someone has to make those samples, why not make your own?

yeah how do you actually produce those sounds from scratch?

I'm enjoying this more than his latest releases, that's for sure.

Ease of use? Some of his wubs are his voice, albeit twisted through programs (or so I've heard). Just saying the entry level is really low, and if he didn't even bother to ensure that the tracks were completely finished and ready for release why would he go out and make his own samples?

In order to make a bass note you take a single soundwave and EQ it until you get the sound you want (sub bass is a smooth sine wave whereas the midgrange bass is usually a square or triangle wave) and then you write you melody and further manipulate the sound with effects and EQ'ing

Incase you haven't noticed, he still uses all the same noises. Honestly, I have so much respect for artists like the Avalanches and DJ Shadow who have made sample only masterpieces, but when someone like Skrillex who uses the same samples over and over again and never develops his sounds from release to release comes along I have a hard time respecting them as a producer at all

Especially since you produce yourself, I'd imagine it's hard to sit quietly with original material while something this contrived enjoys somewhat mass appeal.

I'm not in it for the fame man, I just make music because the best feeling in the world is listening to a song and thinking "Holy shit, I made this". It's a way for me to express the emotions i've felt that I can explain through words. It doesn't matter if he was a star or just some guy I knew, the way he produces music at the quality he does leaves very little for me to find respectful

And i'm really not trying to come off holier than thou, because I do respect him for loving music and following his passion to the heights that he has, I envy the fact that he gets to make a living in the music industry (although i'd prefer to be an engineer/producer as opposed to DJ/Perform my own music for a living). But from a producer/DJ standpoint, I can't say I have a lot of respect for him

Just commenting on the current trend(s) is all, never pegged you for someone in it for reasons beyond the music.

You're right, being an EDM producer is the new cool thing to do as of 2012 i'm hoping like any trend in Hollywood land it'll fade away soon

Sometimes I enjoy watching the drama, and other times I wish it would just disappear back underground for awhile.
