honestly just happy to have a positive hip-hop take away from colton for once in that he doesn't like jay-z, i'm content

the roots had a major quality dip in the 2000s and it's been a bit of a rocky road ever since but they have never done anything flat out bad

common has done nothing good except resurrection tho

I really think 2006-2010 Roots is almost as good as 1995-1999 Roots tbh

the minute a bunch of old heads start using electric guitar riffs in their beats is the moment they are #deadtome

I just don't really like Common that much in general tbh, I once thought Resurrection was a classic but these days I'm not even so sure about that one, every time i revisit it it's underwhelming

Someone once called Kanye's production on Be his own personal Donuts. I agree wholeheartedly.

having kanye's production mentioned in the same sentence as dilla's makes me physically ill

i don't think our tastes in hip-hop are that wildly different halfbro, i think we just all at once discovered a lot of things that we do disagree on and it seems like a lot lol. but before this i've found myself agreeing with you in hip hop threads frequently

Kanye and dilla are approximately equals in my mind. Altho it’s sort of more of the picasso(kanye)/monet(dilla) thing lol

Idk I mean obviously Kanye fell off as an artist overall but the pitched up soul sample and sort of “collapsing” unquantized percussive sounds from TCD are IMMENSELY pleasing to me and Yeezus and 808s are crazy hairpin turns and MBDTF is delicious as well and there are good beats and instincts and sounds even on the weaker albums. Just a beautiful career up until uhhh I guess TLOP or at best ye

if we wanna compare dilla and yeez to art here is a more accurate comparison

Dilla: https://www.muralswallpaper.com/app/uploads/starry-night-art-plain.jpg
