Never really gave these guys the time of day other than a few singles from back in the day. Might need to check em all out

They have some interesting 'eras' for sure. The first two albums with the new singer are really good

nd yeah bloc, the thing about any album with the new singer is there are a LOT LESS 9 minute songs

As someone who is largely a Dragonforce apologist, Valley of the Damned and Sonic Firestorm are still their best.
Inhuman Rampage and Ultra Beatdowns are mostly just worse versions of Sonic Firestorm, but they still have some jams.
Power Within is a nice creative shot in the arm and actually pretty different for them. Maximum Overload and Reaching into Infinity are kinda derivative and only for the hardcore fans imo.
Extreme Power Metal is like a little fun experiment but also pretty bad lol
And then there's this, which gets back to at least Power Within levels of quality imo

I haven't listened to this band in nearly 20 years, I'm not sure I have the energy for this anymore.

Hard to believe I’m still listening to Dragonforce in 2024

This has captured me in a weird way…. I’ve not really liked Dragonforce since Ultra Beatdown but I’m digging this for some reason

This really scratches the silly power metal itch. Taylor Swift cover is also surprisingly great

Say what, which song is a cover?

saw them open for dethklok last night. fun time but uhhhhh do they use playback live???
there was one particular instance where two of the guitarists were standing on these arcade machines, prob like 8 feet off the ground. they then decide to climb down, hands obviously not on their guitars, and there was no noticeable volume drop in the super fast palm muted tremelo picking.

this might be news to you but guitar can be played with more than just the hands ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I think they've confirmed using playback sometimes in the name of theatrics, so that kinda tracks lol Don't think they do that for every song tho

Each guitarist has the signature Herman Li Enhancement pedal on their board
|
| |
yeah i feel like they were absolutely playing all the solos and leads for real but during the chord progression verses and choruses they were pretty obviously fucking around and not playing the stuff. herman played (or pretended to play) with his teeth like a dozen times and it sounded perfect every time lmao
wouldn't say it really took away from the show at all, just never seen anyone do it like that
