might be the most prominent example of the machine winning in popular culture, in the sense it’s the most blatant and obvious yet still masquerading as ‘choice’. People can actually choose not to support it, yet they do, unwittingly. Politics usually has more smoke and mirrors at least

and that’s depressing on so many levels

The meaning behind Taylor Swift's new album is open to interpretation and can vary for each listener. Some possible themes could include embracing change, personal growth, relationships, and self-discovery. As with her previous albums, fans may find inspiration, heartbreak, happiness, or empowerment in the lyrics and music of this new release.

"which seems like a bad thing on the surface until you realize that she’s only in that position because she’s been one of the best artists, marketers, and businesswomen for the past decade and a half"

it is a bad thing by every measure because surely even a level-headed (lol?) fan of her music would admit her popularity is vastly disproportionate to the quality of her material, no? Or is she actually one of the greatest artists of all time? Surely you don't actually believe that? If you do then please seek help immediately

Yes, she is quite clearly a very savvy businesswoman / marketer etc. but she is 99% hype-machine and image. Her rise to this level of stardom paints a rather depressing picture and shows how easily manipulated people are. I mean, do you actually believe she's in a genuine relationship with Travis Kelce? It's all complete bullshit. A business transaction designed to reach a wider audience. Part of a carefully cultivated persona.

Her prominence makes a mockery of so many talented artists who will never be given the time of day. The fact it barely matters what this album even consists of is shocking in itself

(I'm assuming most of y'all know this shit, just for the unaware because apparently people this naïve really do exist... if this evidence is anything to go by)

I genuinely think Taylor is a very good song writer and lyricist. Is her fame disproportionate to the quality of her music, considered in a vacuum? Sure. But fame is nearly always like that. In addition to whatever talent is present, there's the chance interaction between the person's personality, image and the cultural moment, resulting in that "lightning in a bottle" reaction. I doubt any musician has enjoyed fame that is proportionate purely to their musical talents.

"…but you know that’s not the case. It’s sputnik, not rolling stone"

and that's the shocking thing. I doubt Sput is important enough for Swift to pay for the privilege of a nice shiny score, but maybe if someone else had reviewed this, it'd become clearer. Placating the Swifties perhaps? Was their invasion last time damaging for site optics? Hard to say.

nighbringer's comment is probably AI generated too, it certainly reads that way. Explaining a concept we already know about as some sort of rebuttal, factually it isn't inaccurate yet adds nothing to explain the phenomenon of how Swift came to be. We've hit levels so stratospheric here that everything must be questioned

admittedly I'd trade my considerable reputation in exchange for the ability to rate in .1 increments, c'mon Swift I know you're watching and can make this happen.

One shiny 5 (or hell, I'll 5 BOTH editions!)... my credibility in tatters etc. I'll do it.
