they didn’t really influence any rock subgenre, did they?
when it comes to mainstream pop/rock, as much as a cliché it is, the beatles are more influential, simply because they wrote more hits, and they could also make progress from a (simple) boy band to a decent proto-psych outfit
as for any kind of electronic music, kraftwerk is the obvious ground zero

yea i just meant the group that's had the most influence on any one particular genre. the beatles def super influential as well but these guys are absolute titans in terms of influence, there wasn't really anything like them at the time and the detroit house and techno of the 80s/90s was so indebted to these guys its crazy

Completely agree, true innovators they were. The beatles already got a lot to work with, but took it to another level. Kraftwerk on the other hand were among the very few to step onto unknown territory. (And they could even influence bands like Big Black, which is an achievement in itself.)
