I'm not following your logic there.

the problem is people don't understand the rating system.
that's why people complain when a certain album has an average rating of 3.5/3.6.
but you have to realise that these albums have more positive ratings than negative, and that average isn't that bad.

All I'm trying to say is that the rating scale is skewed by the fact we tend to check out bands we like, and therefore chances are our rating will reflect this (i.e be higher).

I enjoyed the review very much until the last line. Aurora is a filler? Lol, Dave Grohl lists Aurora as possibly his personal favorite Foo Fighters song ever. Aurora is a beautiful song that I listen to daily.
Still very strong review, I've listened to this 4 times since I discovered it available last night and my first though was exactly the same: First Five songs are by far superior, and not a weak ending at all, I rated it a 4, but all in all I think I agree with your point.

Just listened to this last night, I think it's their best album, the only thing that stops it being a 4.5 or a 5 for me is the 3 song sequence of 'Back & Forth', 'A Matter Of Time', and 'Miss The Misery', I found each of those a bit dull.
First few tracks are excellent, 'White Limo' is awesome (even though it's heavier than most music I'd listen to) and 'These Days' has that kind of 'Times Like These' uplifting feel to it.
'I Should Have Known' is hauntingly beautiful, probably the most personal song of Dave Grohls I've heard.
During the intro I thought 'Walk' was a bit cheesey, but once it got to the "I never wanna die!" section I got goosebumps, an epic statement for an epic tune.

I have to agree. I don't think this album is top heavy but rather a bit middle-light. I should've known and Walk are awesome songs.

It's hard to maintain an average of 4 because someone who thinks it's Great drops the average lol.
Also the fact that it's the 12th, and the album went on sale for the first time on the 11th in certain places, chances are only fans have listened to it, and people who have been waiting, before you get a true rating you have to wait for people more critcal of the Foos to pick it up.
I gave it a 4, I was stoked for this album with all the talk leading up I was actually more prepared to be let down then let up so to speak, was very happy.

all this talk about what ratings 'mean' is stupid. a 3.5 means different things for different people. rate albums whatever the hell you want to.
I mean, have you seen theacademy's ratings?

hey
academy has the best taste on the site
do not insult him like that

Yeah, I'm really loving this. It's been a while since I was able to really get into a new Foo Fighters release. Thinking of possibly bumping up the rating to 4... I need to listen to it a few more times to know for sure.
