Yeah the arrangments on that one are amazing

Yeah on my first listen I remember thinking that Cradling Mother overshadowed it, but with more listens, Going to the Sun has much more of a gradual build to that flourishing brass/chorus, whereas Cradling Mother sort of starts high and ends high - almost an illuminated Grown Ocean.

Yeah, song is truly transcendent. Feels like I'm drifting off to heaven.

I rarely feel this captivated throughout an entire album on a first listen.
It's refreshing to be listening to optimistic sounding music these days.

I must be off chops cos Cradling Mother and Sun Road don't really grab me. they're still solid on their own but some of my least favourites in context of the album tbh
my top 3 is probably Sunblind, Quiet Air and Young Man's Game

Sunblind is great. Quiet Air is okay but kind of forgettable to me. Young Man's game has a bit of a Coldplay refrain, but of course that just makes me love it more.

Aye, I'm also liking the new Young Jesus album from that perspective.

I somehow, someway wasn't ecstatic once I realized this was coming out (same week as Deftones/Sufjan for me), and Fleet Foxes have again proven they are truly special and amazing and I love them

This has a very different feel to it, it almost sounds like a different folk band with the same aspirations as Fleet Foxes. It's different but very, very - almost unbelievably - beautiful. Like I've said earlier, I don't think this will hold up long term to HB or CU, but it's a gorgeous oasis in an ugly year and hopefully a stepping stone to their next chapter. I don't think that producing another album or two in this same vein will serve them well; let this be their one-off "mainstream" sounding record. It's a success for what it is, but I hope they don't try to replicate it over and over with diminishing results.

I think this is way more enjoyable than crack up... Even HB, too.

This might be more enjoyable, but I think Crack-Up (and Helplessness Blues to a lesser extent) are better. This one lacks subtlety but has more memorable melodies and production.

did you guys see the needledrop interview? was very insightful, mostly focused on how robin wrote the lyrics over the summer and didn't feel like writing about his own issues with everything going on in the world, and wanted to make this record more about other people
