yeah idk this just feels like them doing something a little different with some visible flavorings of the last lp in the mix (wave, idle wild, even glimpse)



if anything drift is sanded down, as this is a new thing where drift is straight up the old thing but neutered in every parameter. this has both more of its own identity and more teeth than that, and it's definitely assisted in not trying to echo the past

I don’t buy the “Drift is the old thing neutered” at all. It was so different than their prior albums that’s why it was disliked by many. Drift is easily their most beautiful album prior to s/t having stuff like Vanish Canvas.



I’m still to this day baffled by anyone who likes Erra not liking that album. I get not liking it when it dropped but it is truly superb and I WILL DIE ON THAT HILL

drift isn't different enough for me tbh. i almost wish they went more pretty than they did because most of the heavy parts of that album feel like beefless watered down stuff theyve done better before/after, and jesse's own melodies don't really feel do enough either they're way safer than they are here to me. this gets way more of a pass for me because its just trying the heavy in a whole new way, rather than just feeling like a diet erra album. i do like that album tho i just don't really love it sans hypno, sleeper, and hourglass



hypnotist is an all timer erra song though and it as a full length gets extra points for utilizing so many g# minor songs since thats my favorite key region lol (one that unfort appears here zero times smh jesse)

slower tempo/more focus on groove and chugs than crazy riffing/jesse singing lower/oversaturation of dan braunstein prod (this is his best sounding record tho) seem to be the biggest things ive noticed people don't like



but also exacerbated by the fact that self titled was extremely popular for them. i still think its great tho :shurgs:

This is like where you have 3-4 flavors of songs and the like-flavor ones cannibalize themselves. Like I have no desire to listen to the softer ones cause you get everything you want from Glimpse. The others are whatever. When it comes to the heavier ones I can pretty much get what I want from Crawl backwards and everything else is whatever.



Couple that with the fact other bands have done the sounds better and/or they have done the sound better themselves there’s just nothing overtly redeemable here outside a couple of songs
