Oh yeah, that's gotta make things pretty complicated. I live in a suburban area that didn't really get affected, so things have been a lot more chill here, relatively speaking.

"my local gyms are super cramped and with corona and all that I'm not exactly excited to go back."

Understand this but assuming the weather's decent, you could just go out running. Its what ive always done, and hey its free.

Excellent! I've been running for a couple of years now. Unfortunate that we haven't been able to have any races. I was planning on doing a marathon but obviously everything got cancelled.

Ive done a few smaller races throughout the years (5ks, 10ks), and once trained for a marathon, but unfortunately I couldnt keep myself healthy enough to go through with it. Its quite the commitment, and I hope you get to do it eventually.

Curious whats the farthest run youve ever taken?

My longest official run was a half marathon, but I've done 20 before in preparation for the full. I'm still trying to stay in shape for it whenever it comes back around. My knees are still holding, so I've got that going for me!

Yeah, I havent had any knee trouble yet but Im sure thats coming down the road. I have sprained my back before running on too much pavement, and that was horrible. I couldnt run for two months after that.

My longest single run was 33 miles, but it was too hot that day so i had a bout of heat exhaustion and passed out for a couple hours after (nothing ultra serious, just felt like a forced nap haha)

Oh wow, that's quite an effort to do 33. If you're capable of that, how come you haven't tried for a marathon?

Thats a good question. I guess at times in my life I could have done one, but other things going on at those times didnt make it feasible. Unless Im just in the mood for a race, I really enjoy not doing it to be competitive.

it's been really hot, even at night recently. Who am I kidding though, I'm just making up excuses *sigh*

Don't feel bad haha.

Most of the population of the world hates exercise and puts it off. Definitely in America. I'm not in a big city or town by any means, but I'm positive I'm the only one that runs the streets (couple walkers though).

I never do races to compete outside of competing with myself, like shooting for a better overall time or pace. I never actually try to beat anyone else, not really my thing. Plus, the atmosphere of a race is just so fun, at least where I'm from.

And yeah, we've gotten better here in the U.S. to a small degree. Still a lot of people that do not exercise though. I definitely advocate for it but understand that there are those that just are not into it.

In my experience, the shorter the race, the more competitive it tends to be.

I've only "won" one race, a 5k, and the 2nd placer and I actually had a photo finish, literally. I gave my heart out. It was exciting as hell. That competition I liked, pretty epic honestly. But yeah, as distances pick up, its less of a runner vs runner thing, and more a runner vs. self instead. Other races I did, the 1st-placer blew away the whole competition.

People that can manage those kind of paces at long-distance astound me and I'll never be close to that level lol

Same here. One race I did, the 1st placer was a guy named Stuart Morgan I think, and he was fairly famous and had set the NC marathon record at the time, or something equivalent. Of course he's running a simple 5k when I happened to be as well, and yet, I never saw him on the track during the race! Haha, I got 2nd, which was great, but he probably finished 1st once I hit Mile 2, lol.

He retired a year later. Hats off to that guy and those like him. He was in his upper 40s.

nah that was ten years ago. The other runners were closer to me than that guy was to the rest of us.

What kind of pace were you hitting?

my time for that one was 17:54, or 5:46 mile. The 1st place guy had 16:02, and 5:10. Surprised the results are still posted.
