This second listen isn't changing much about my negative feelings towards the new one. I even think Garm is a little monotonous on it, whereas I love everything he has ever done vocally! W e i r d.

I think this LP is so energetic and lively that a follow up that seems to hone in on the softer side of the sound, as dewinged mentioned, was destined to feel a little flat (at least at first) when it is so obviously a continuation of the Assassination sound. This is too negative of a descriptor, but it’s almost like a diet version of the sound. I still like it quite a bit though

I feel like Sic Gloria Mundi was better in terms of songwriting, but I still need more listens to decide if FoE is B-Sides from Assassination or an entity on its own.

Flowers in Evil is different in that the rhythm is basically the same the whole time and there're more guitars. A Thousand Cuts is one of their best songs in a while.

Almost done the new album and it's ok, maybe it will grow on me. I 5'd this, so it had big shoes to fill. The new one sounds a bit more on the funky side, especially with songs like Nostalgia.

Wars is one of their best smh. I'd say Flowers of Evil, Messe, Drone Activity, Riverhead, and Terrestrials are my least favorite of their full-length albums, and all of those are still quite good. One of the best bands ever.
