See, I can't stand Deftones ripoff music, and I'm surprised you prefer this album over Heavener since you have that preference, unless you prefer this album more for its instrumentals.

Instrumentally this album is better, vocally Heavener is better.

Jeet I know what you're talking about but I find it funny that you first name an instrumental band when it comes to cleans in metalcore

the leads are the only part of the instrumental i reallllly dig more here, but i can see it both ways. its chonky riffs are generally more rhythmically fun to me than here. i feel the grooves of that record harder and thats more what im in it for, while also having more moments that subverted my expectation than here
the only advantage this has to me otherwise is less stock structures but like i kinda see being able to do interesting things within those structures as kinda sharper "songwriting" than just stringing parts together imo. whether thats preferable is a diff story but here i think it sits a little awkwardly in a way that was otherwise seamless on the first two

yeah sorry bros. all the respect in the world to the greyview> crew but im jamming this again for the first time in a while and its not hittin me remotely as close as heavener does. the 4.5 is pretty light at this point and mostly j intact bc of monarch. still better than the worst album by like 99% of bands tho. my stance is more or less that i absolutely love the riffing here but i like maybe 3 of the choruses lmao i think theyre mostly super forced here, so nearly every song has a moment that takes me out of it sans tracks 5-8. feel like this needed the same clean/unclean ratio as stillworld and everchanger
the cloud cascade riff still has a dick the size of the eiffel tower tho

I wanted to like this so much but I just can't. Marcus feels shoehorned here unlike on Heavener. Some riffs are good like Cloud

heavener might not survive the 5 for much longer tbh so i am increasingly more sympathetic re: its faults but yea hes j so much more settled in and the songs feel more naturally built around him (that and he j all around sounds better)
its lowk part of why brightwing is the other best song here bc hes just kinda beating ass the whole time

Monarch is such a sick song man, literally chills for like 2 minutes straight listening to it today
