Niiiiiice man. Sadly, my favourite is the generic choice of West End Girls. Never got tired of that one.

if Gore fronted DM they would probably sound like pet shop boys haha

At a point they did kinda sound like PSB in a broken frame, but in a childish way.

Most underrated album by them, the other one is exciter. and maybe one of their last 3 albums they released because I haven't listened to them completely

Freestate gets to me every time, probably because the after-chorus melody is reminiscent of some of the trademark Paradise Lost guitar leads.

That's an interesting comparison, I also dig that western-esque bit at 3:15. This is honestly my favorite DM from the 90s and around 3rd-4th overall (BC, MftM, Ultra and PtA). It has the atmosphere man and also the production (which I feel was really lacking in SoFaD). My three favorite songs here are It's No Good, Sister of Night and either Useless or Freestate. But I also love the floating instruments of The Bottom Line and those backing vocals at 3:00 ugh so good

I think SoFaD gets too muddy and chaotic in its busiest moments (the surround DVD does fix this but in exchange you lose some bite) but of course I'll give you the atmosphere. Personally Ultra feels exactly like its artwork, I don't know how to describe it exactly but I guess "futuristic" is one of the words

yeah, it's one of the best on this album imo but I don't think they've ever played it live, in any capacity
