What is too Equal Vision? Pull-off guitar leads?
|

I'd consider pull-offs a pretty elemental part of their sound.
In a recent interview in Exclaim!, they said: "maybe our association with EVR and the fact we don't use any blast beats on the new record will effectively weed out the kids still holding out hope we'll resurrect our old bands or write songs teh way we did six years ago.
Thought it was a nice touch.

Nah, like that cliche post hardcore delay ridden sound. Like "Silence Is Failure," at first I was like, "hey, this is really cool and different for Hot Cross, net!" Then I realized it's pretty generic Fall Of Troy-esque stuff. Which is not necessarily that bad, cause it's a cool song, but I think Hot Cross could do better.
This album is getting old kind of fast for me. Not really near Cryonics whatsoever.
I really don't mind the pull off riffing either. I think the guitars were at lot more technical on Cryonics but either way, he does it extremely well and I don't think it's overused or annoying.

Ya. It all started with Grade. That Victory producer made Headfirst, Straight to Hell super trebly and reverby and then did the same thing for Thursday and Taking back Sunday, both of who used delay pedals, so everybody got way in to copying that sound.
|
| |
Thursday used it real well I think though. It really defined their sound.

Ya. It made Full Collapse have a resonant, eerie sound that tied in really well with all of the emotional ties to the dead, as if there were ghosts in the mix making everything a little more murky and off-putting. And of course it only hurt Taking Back Sunday since their sound already relied on really formulaic song structures and repetitive lyrics so having a distinctive but repetitive mix was a terrible idea.

Hahaha, perfectly said.

This is good, but it wore off a fair amount right away. Still...Fatefully, Turncoat Revolution, and Cardiac Silence are sick.

Ya but you like Zao ewwwww.
Anybody else really love "Blame Truth?"

"Silence Is Failure" sucks so bad. I think "Cardiac Silence" gets way too much of a bad rap, it's not great but it's not terrible.

this album really grows on you. i really like the vocals, they remind me of a day in black in white's vocal presentation on my heroes have always killed cowboys. cryonics is a little bit better IMO.

Finally we can now all listen to this CD and call it legendary cause they broke up. Phew. I was worried we were going to have to be above this album forever.
