I was all set to buy this album when it came out before a friend warned me of the quality. After downloading half the album I found nothing I enjoyed besides the chorus of "Given Up". It's hard to see how a year was required to write this. And I don't enjoy a ton of cussing all of a sudden either.

Changing their style of music was idiotic in my opinion. There was absolutely no reason to. This "Nu-metal" that you speak of(Why sterotype their music?) is not a dying genre at all, (well at least not in Linkin Parks case) because, when you think about it, there really aren't and never were any other "Nu-metal" bands that were worth listening to, and something that was never alive can't be dead, can it? Linkin Park's sound was unique. They should have stuck with it and perfected it. Now all they are is another pathetic soft rock group that emo kids will hear on the radio and love (but only because it sounds like Good Charlotte).

That being said (yes even after all that there is a plus side), Mike Shinoda dumps once agian on "Hands Held High". I could listen to Mike all day, his music has flow and meaning, unlike the other vocalists for LP. Shinoda should have stuck with Fort Minor.

I am extremely dissapointed in this album, lets hope they realize how bad it is and go back to doing what they do best. This Message Edited On 05.18.07This Message Edited On 05.18.07

I heard this was bad. I've been a big LP fan for a while. Though I hate rap with a passion, I really liked them with their "Rap-Rock/Metal" approach.

I'll have to check this out. This Message Edited On 05.19.07

i listened to this a few times the other day, it was just very forgettable. There are some 'decent' moments, but they're just drowned out by boring stretches that result in nothing.

i think Rick Rubin's stripped down sound has contributed to the very dull sound of the album.

for the album, as i listened to the 30 sec samples i thought 'Wake' showed promise, then i listened to the full-lenght-tracks; after the intro it slowly went downhill.

it is beyond me how Rubin let them get away with 'Shadow of the Day'; sounds 95 % like U2's 'With or Without You'.This Message Edited On 05.19.07

It's called categorizing music, not stereotyping it. Their genre was in fact nu-metal so I don't see what your getting at. Also, I think many people would disagree with you about LP being the only nu-metal band worth listening. Many people think Disturbed or Slipknot are better. I personally haven't liked any nu-metal since I was 11 or 12 years old, but I'm just saying that LP are definitely not the only nu-metal band that people liked.

You think they should have stuck with their old sound and "perfected it?" Meteora and Hybrid Theory were practically the exact same album and if they stuck with nu-metal this album would have probably been Hyrbid Theory Part 3. They had their sound "perfected" because it didn't change until this album where they have decided to copy the new trend.

And nu-metal is most definitely a dying genre. Korn abandoned the genre, LP abandoned the genre, and Disturbed attempted to by adding solos to their songs that just happened to suck.

I'm taking it for what it is (minutes to midnight, not hybrid theory) and I think it's decent. I like seeing bands change over time and try new shit with their music so I respect the direction they went in. I like that there's less songs with Mike on vocals (though I like 'Hands held high' a lot). It sounds like the guitarist has improved and Chester does indeed sound less whiney. There's less of a rock/hip hop sound on this one and I don't think people were expecting that. The first song someone played for me was 'In pieces' and it's still my favorite!

Eakflanderyof, please be open-minded, there are just lots of bands to the "new sounds" brought by M2M.

By perfectin HT we mean if we stuck to a genre [the best genre, unfortunately people with ---- mind dont understand it and blame it as a mallcore] we could produce more good or better stuffs since HT or Meteora.

They dont need necessarilly to in that change.

About the whole album Shinoda and Hahn did great works like programmin, providin elements etc. But they did not give us as much as expected what we want from em like Turntables, rappin and I am quite sure if LP still will not get the sense to go back to HT styles then there is no need for shinoda and hahn and they should better change their name to... another old stupid name.

PS: koRn is said to be the GODFATHER of Numetal and they didnt /will not abandone it.This Message Edited On 05.21.07

AAARRRGHH.... MORE LINKIN PARK! (They made me capslock!) I'm not sure what's so earth-breakingly different about THIS album from all their other ones; it sounds nearly the same to me... the only thing is that there's more singing- and I don't like that; I can't stand Chester Bennington's voice. He sounds like one of those boy band singers... O_O (You know, the ones that are impossible to distinguish from one another? I still don't know or want to know the difference between the backstreet boys and nsync. Besides the name difference. For all I know, they're the same people...)

this album is weird because the first six songs aren't bad (excluding "wake"), but the rest of the album just isn't up to par and the new sound of linkin park doesn't mesh well with some of the standout tracks that are on this album.

I bought the new Linkin Park cd about 10 days ago and haven't really had time to listen to it until tonight. I could see why a lot of people would give it a low rating, it's not like Linkin Park, and it's one of those albums that you have to listen to more than once or twice to actually start to appreciate more and more. There are in my opinion some stand out tracks however, such as: "leave out all the rest", "shadow of the day", and "the little things you give away". The single from this album is very generic and get's old very quickly, and in my opinion it's an average album, however more than likely a huge dissapointment for an avid lp fan.

Nice review, but this album sucks...only 3 decent songs:No More Sorrow ; Given Up ; Bleed It Out... and that's all folks, thank u for listening.I hope there'll be no more "new sound" experiments or we might listen to "Ooops What I've Done Again" featuring Britney...

the only good thing i can say about the change this band made (although i didn't like their previous stuff either) is that the guitarist now has cool hair.

Congratulations, you have excelled in raping the English language. Seriously, it hurt my eyes reading that. This post is funny on more than one level, though. First of all, the fact that you tell me to be open-minded is ridiculous. I bet you don't listen to any black or death metal do you. How have I not been open-minded? All I said was that what I've heard from this album sucks and nu-metal is a dying genre. The first one is my opinion and the second one is a fact. Also, you say that people who don't like nu-metal have **** minds. Just because you like nu-metal doesn't mean others are stupid for disliking it. As a matter of fact, judging by trends I've seen on this music site, nu-metal fans generally tend to be far less competent posters.

BTW, Korn have abandoned nu-metal, but they sound even worse than they did before. Now, they have this funky twang to them, and it's not done well.
