I hated Sigur Ros at first, but now I'm starting to like it them better.

Dude...(Scruples).
I like my music to be more linear...this stuff is WAY too non-linear for my taste.
Don't get your panties in a knot.
|
| |
Non-linear? I don't see how that's a bad thing, but alright.
I suggest ( ) before this album, if you'd wish to further persue it.
|
| |
I listened to ( ) also, and that was even WORSE.
I just don't get what is so special about this band...they seem so boring.
I like some non-linear stuff, but this is way too far out there for me.
|
| |
Boring, eh? Oh well, you're loss, I suppose. I loved them from the start of ( ).

Both this album and ( ) are extremely calming and can be used as anti-depressents or even just as chill music.
I think this can only seem boring after switching directly from fast/energetic music.

cooool record.
svefn-g-englar is overwhelming.
( ) gets so much hype, but it's my least favorite release by sigur ros. it's far too sleepy, i think. sigur ros isn't a generally sleepy post rock band, most of their material is uplifting i think. ( ) is a good record, it's just not up to par with everything else they've composed.

Did everybody know that Iceland voted this album their best album of the entire 20th century? Not much competition, but still, true story.
I went and saw them in concert last week, and they performed quite a few tracks from this record... absolutely amazing live. If you liked this band, you will not be disappointed by their live performance. You know how in the middle of track seven, the song recedes to nothing for a moment, then comes back in? They did it live, and froze in place at the end of the fade-out... and held their spots for about thirty seconds. Fantastic live show.
After falling in love with ( ), I gave this one a try, and I was certainly glad for it. Their use of instrumentation is exceptional, with brass supplements in right places and a constant string quartet. The variety of their material on this record is also wonderful - the strings-lead third track, the hook-lead sixth track, the quiet brass intro to the overwhelming fifth track, the orchestral blast of later tracks... these gentlemen are superb songwriters, and I consider this record an essential Post-Rock album.

They're playing in Nashville on Valentine's Day. Too bad it's been sold out for months.

Second best behind ( ). I still don't like Takk... very much.

This is a truly great album, one I discovered through the internet community. Easily one of my top 10 albums released in the modern era.

Alright, this is ridiculous. I have had this album for a few weeks now, and tried to listen to it all the time, but I can never get past the first three songs, before either falling asleep, or pressing the 'Repeat' button. The first three after the intro are awesome, and I love them to put it bluntly. It does sound completely different to Takk and ( ); it is hard to explain. At times, without the odd language, you could swear he is speaking English, and it just sounds so... normal, but nice. ( ) was not normal, and is quite incomporable. Takk can be compared with this, and to be honest, it is too close to call, both are as good as each other in my honest opinion.
Well worth getting anyway.
