Took a lotta LSD yesterday and am now convinced As the Sun Hits is the best song ever

When the Sun Hits has always been a weird one for me bc I spent years with the (wonderful!) Gathering cover before getting round to this, and would still give that version the edge as my favourite even though I can see why it's an easy album highlight to so many of y'all. Great song either way

Quickly bumped and while I can see where the preference comes from, Silje Wergeland's vocal performace really changes the mood of the track. Slowdive's is so apathetic and dissassociated that Silje's voice adds a dimension I quite frankly was not expecting and which was a little disarming, but I also see how the OG not having that element could cause a hang up if you fell in love with the cover first.

Ah yeah, *Anneke van Giersbergen (earlier era) defs has more colour in her cheeks than Slowdive lol, plus the weight of those guitars behind her - think the other version has a lot more of the high-contrast trashy-neon wholesome/endearing '90s to it (but enough lush atmosphere and earnest deliver to tide things over!) compared to the pallid mope we all know and love this for, but both are perfect for what they go for imo
