It feels almost on par with ...Is a Real Boy but man it's good for being so damn long.

Never heard of this band, but lately have been recommended their stuff.
I'm gonna get this for sure.
Great review.

Well, im not a fan of this band. ...Was a Real Boy sounded really "cutesy". I dunno, like another run of the mill poppy trash band that actually went to their music classes.
I think i'll give this a listen since its so well liked though. Can't hurt.

No no. I like Blink 182, New Pornographers, the Beatles, Foo Fighters, etc
i just think a lot of MODERN ('00's) pop rock is fairly crappy. Im still gonna give this the benefit of the doubt when i listen to it.

I like this alot more than ...Is A Real Boy.

No way is this a 4.5.
Solid album but nothing great.

Lol I don't think so. This is a 3.5/4 In Rainbows is 4.5.
For me anyway.

In Rainbows is lame.
|
| |
haha In Rainbows is miles better than this. Bemis is a good lyricist and their songs are catchy but two albums of listening to that annoying sarcastic faux witty voice he puts on is just too much, I can stand maybe two or three songs of it.

That was really stupid. Tim Kinsella wins by a big margin but still sounds like an idiot.

Say Anything are absolutely terrible. I watched the sampler trailers for the new album and every thing I heard wasn't even near a 1/5. This band is terrible. They're rated high for being sorta experimental within their genre but ultimately are a mix of a poor man's Gatsby's America Dream and a crackwhore's Further Seems Forever. Oh ya and that's not even bringing up the aloof Panic references.
I don't see the Gatsby comparison at all. Besides it's not like GAD were the first pop-punk band to throw in weird time sigs or unusual melodies anyways, Descendents have been doing that for like 20 years (maybe not in the same way but still). And as for pop-punk bands I would easily put Say Anything in the top-tier, far above their contemporaries (Panic, FOB, Red Jumpsuit Faggaratus, MCR, etc.) at any rate. Bemis writes some great songs and his hooks kill.

I'm kinda looking forward to this, but ...Is a Real Boy didn't blow me away as much as I had anticipated. Nevertheless, I'll pick it up. Good review.

No, yeah, I get the Gatsby's comparison, but I don't see how Say Anything are a poor man's version of the band. They take the good of that band and make it more accessible to everyone, like the Descendents or Latterman (wow, that was a stretch.)
This album is tempting but I'm not expecting much, so I'll give it time.
