While this is a tremendous Jazz album, it's sometimes difficult to listen to. 9.5/10

This album is alright...just wayyyyyyyy too much improvising...it gets old farely quick. I respect what he did though, but man, 5-6 minutes of improv on every track gets old.

This album just has that little something about it. I dunno why, but I'm absolutely in love with it.

After getting kicked out of his role due to drug addiction, Coltrane releases this epic jazz gem. One of the greatest jazz albums ever made, pure and simple.

A truely essential album in every sense of the word. Everyone should own this, plain and simple. I hardly ever hand out 5 star ratings, but this is one of those albums that deserve it to the fullest.

I've been listening a lot to the live performance of the album in france, it's a lot more atonal and dissonant than the studio version. highly recommended.

Yeah, not avant-garde.... what a fucking douche bag. This album defines avant-garde.

It was voted the second greatest jazz record ever (http://home.austarnet.com.au/petersykes/jazz100/) behind Kind Of Blue, I need to check it out soon.

^^Figures a Miles Davis Album and a John Coltrane album would make the top of that list. No one pays attention to anyone else in jazz anymore, except fusion, which is lame.

Probably my favorite Coltrane album, no doubt the most influential. However, you didn't really need to include the religious references - though I know Coltrane was very spiritual, saying "only the most sullen athiest would not be moved by A Love Supreme" is kind of stupid. But I agree with you on pretty much everything else. Good review.
