Whoa jeez. You guys hate this album. I really think its pretty good. While there's admittedly few Standout great tracks, I think overall its a good album. Speed of Sound is great and so is Til Kingdom Come, the hidden track. The rest are all solid tracks, if not good singles. Other highlights are Low, A Message, Fix You, What If, etc. It's not as bad as you people say it is.

 This just in: Saying something is average means you hate it.

Seriously, the only person in the thread who gave it a rating showing it would be safe to assume they hate it was Iai.This Message Edited On 07.15.05

Masakik, it was going to be included on Johnny Cash's next album, but he died. It wasn't written by Coldplay.

I think this album is better than 'a rush of blood to the head', i find R.o.b.t.t.h is more poppy and radiofriendly than X & Y. No doubt is comes no where near parachutes, but it surpasses r.o.b.t.t.h. The progression of most of the songs are is great. It's a bit dissapointing, but its not as bad as you all make it out to be.

Just because Johnny was going to use it on his next album doesnt mean that he wrote it. Johnny has played songs he didn't write before......This Message Edited On 07.16.05

F*** all of ya'll X&Y is a great album. You complain that Coldplay don't inivate enough, yet you think they should act more like Radiohead, which because Radiohead has done it, isn't original anymore. Don't get me wrong I love Radiohead but it takes a Thom Yorke to pull of what they have done. I'm more concerned as a fan, that Coldplay make good music not if they are using the newest moog sound or some of such rubbish.

The thing is, they're boring songs that sound the same as the last two albums. It seems more like they're standing still than moving on with their sound. That doesn't mean their aren't good songs, there are, but the album is lackluster. Especially when you compare it to the last two. You're just a fanboy that doesn't know how to admit when a band puts out bad material. Unless you actually think that this album is so great.

Coldplay sound like U2 now, almost. I was listening to Live 8 in the other room one day, and I actually thought they were U2 for a little bit. This Message Edited On 07.16.05

^^^

Exactly. And Masakik, what is more likely, that COLDPLAY wrote a song for Johnny Cash or that he wrote it himself?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH, Masakik, you're the dumbest person on the planet, bar none. Cash wrote the song, had it ready, but never got it recorded, then Coldplay took the music and did the song themselves.

Coldplay would be better off just going that extra 1 yard to the 99 they've already travelled and become a Radiohead tribute band rather than churn out mellow, tasteless garbage like "Yellow" and whatever trashy single they put out from this garbage heap.

I disagree with him, but there's no need to be rude.

How wude! [/Full House]

"'Til Kingdom Come" is a really great song. I was surprised when I say them play it on some show on Vh1/Mtv, seeing as how I would have never though that Coldplay would cover Johnny Cash.

Well, I recently borrowed this off a friend. Didn't even copy it to my computer, was so boring. Nothing that grabs you, a few good tracks but that was it. Very dissapointed in them since I own Parachutes and love it.

I think they tried too hard with this album, tried to make it too emotional, that in the end it just came out fake. Lets hope they do better next time.

Glad to help. Have a listen to it though as fans seem to be split 50/50 on this one.

Yeah, but the half that thinks it is average/bad is the Top 15 list mainly, with great taste in music, and most of the others are fanboys...

I haven't listened to this album and I don't really want to.

I guess this is just down to taste of music really, personally I actually like the sound of this album since I like Radiohead but I also like Jeff Buckley a lot so I like also Coldplay's older stuff.

Its just down to taste of music IMO if you like this album.

But whatever...

I abosolutely love Radiohead and Jeff Buckley. Radiohead were my favourite band for years and I own pretty much all of Jeff Buckley's releases.

So meh

I was told how amazing this album was, and everyone likes it, so I decided to see what the fuss was about. To be honest, it's not TERRIBLE. I really quite like Coldplays singles usually, and a few other select songs off their two other albums but X&Y... Well, i've listened to the album through two or three times and none of the tracks really hit me as amazing. A lot of it struck me as bland. I would give it a 3 for average, but what with everyone saying how amazing it is really annoys me, so it gets 2.5 from me. I'd probably give their two other albums 3.5.This Message Edited On 08.24.05

Nah, they're great, I love Parachutes and ROBTTH, but this is distinctly overblown and...dull

In three years time, the music mags will sweep their reviews under the rug, just like they did with another Brit phenomenon's third album.
