Bitter Pills owns such an atmosphere, it's just amazing. Makes my mind wander endlessly. And those vocals in the Town of Lincoln, godd*mn they manage to impress me over & over again. Especially from 2:50 to 3:15. Nice filter even.

Very good review. I especialy liked the Seinfeld mention! Gold. I would have to agree with you 100% as well, i was a bit dissapointed with this release. Still, i could see it coming as The New Normal was such an epic release, it was always going to be difficult to follow it up with the same consistancy.

Cog are basically finished after this tour

Interview with Lucius:

“It doesn’t look like a bright future… there’s been no formal statement of where we are. I wanted the band to have an album written by now and I was expecting an album by the end of the year............. I wouldn’t hold my breath for anything new from Cog in the future............ you can rest assured there’s nothing on the calendar for Cog after this tour"

Mhm, this album isn't bad. But after listening to The New Normal the progression in this album is not enough for me. Some songs tend to be hardly repetitive like Bird of Feather

Just to clear something up...the song Bird of Feather is about Flynn being torn btw his wife and kid and his two band mates. Thus why they have broken up, as he wanted to be with his family more often.

This is obvious throughout all the lyrics in the song but no more obvious in the line "My heart is torn between the 2 that keep dividing me, leaves me feeling like I'm paralysed."

Also I see no mention in the lyrics in Swamp of the US government...if there is it's definitely justified as this song was written in th Bush era...need I say more. But it's more likely directed at our government and Howard, who kissed Bush's ass on a daily basis!

That's not what the song is about at all, actually. The protagonist in the song is a soldier going to war and leaving behind his family.

Actually David, you're wrong.

Its Flynn singing about his situation. Proof?

Taken from Cog's website:

It’s not all politics, though – the anguished Bird Of Feather was the COG vocalist’s heart-rending paean to his partner from afar. Eight months is a long, long time to be separated from the ones you love. Too long. Even more so, when there’s a three-year-old involved who just wants her Dad to come back home. You can almost hear the catch in Flynn’s throat as he sings. But for all his raw pain at their separation, when the chorus comes, it comes like a rock thrown through a stained-glass window, spilling light glorious. Such is the power of COG’s music.

Bitter pills is a mesmerising track that only really reveals itself after quite a few listens.

Say your last goodbye has a fantastic energy.

It is a superb album that is aquite a bit of work to get into, but is immensely satisfying.

Cog will be forgotten eventually unless they reform, which is really sad to think of. So many bands with so much less talent linger on.
