Yeah it really doesn't seem like anything new from them that would make it worth while. I'll still probably check it out since I did love The Fall of Ideals for a little bit.

good review, Album was very dissapointing, added to much clean singing, which he isnt very good at (especially live), was hoping would build on the good work they did on The Fall Of Ideals

I loved ATR's previous albums (This Darkened Heart & The Fall of Ideals mainly) but like most other fans I have to admit that Overcome is a step down from the amazing work they did with The Fall of Ideals.
I still don't get why they insisted on doing so much clear singing when Phil has such a versatile screaming/growling voice.

This really grew on me (never hated it to begin with though) and I think this is way better than everyone gives it credit for! I think there is a little more variety here than on Fall Of Ideals and Phil's vocals have so much more to offer now. It may die out a little in the middle (nothing I skip over though) but the Nevermore cover is pretty cool too. I don't expect anyone to agree or change their mind but I think this is a pretty great release to be honest.

The guitar solos on this album are pretty much breath taking, you can tell alot of work has been put in there by the guitar players. But the vocals are a definate sore point.

totally average. I guess maybe i was expecting something glorious, but im really not interested by this cd much at all... i give it some time. Maybe this album will grow on me like a pimple on my bum. Not sure if that is a good thing or not yet.

This album is instrumentally solid, but the singer needs to grow some balls when he is singing cleanly. A little of his voice goes a long way, and I rarely can listen to 2 songs in a row. The guitar is by far the best part, and if I'm not mistaken, every song has at least one guitar solo that aren't in the least repetitive. Sadly each song (with the exeception of "Relinquish") have cleans that detract from the guitar. The worst part is the fact that the singer has a great screaming voice, but feels the urge to only dangle it in front of our collective noses... This Message Edited On 02.05.09
