Lil Wayne spawns, I was thinking, but that too.

Lil Wayne is no good anyway.

That's may or may not be my point.

Oh, sarcasm does not register with me so well on the internet.

"There are much worse things than a long line of MGMT imitators. Not so bad."

I'm not sure about that. I think there would be only so much of this kind of music that I could take. If it was filling the airwaves, I reckon I'd go off it quickly.

True, though if all bands had imitators, say Rise Against (personal for you Davey yes) you would go off them very quickly.

In comparison to what I hear on the airwaves now, it would be a immense improvement.

Mm, Rise Against. This Message Edited On 04.30.09

Would you say that 'Empire of the Sun' are rip offs?

Considering Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore were making music long before MGMT, I would say no.

But, pardon my ignorance, was the music always in the "MGMT-style?" Or is that their original sound?

Oh, and 1111.

Listen to PNAU and The Sleepy Jackson. There's elements of eccentricity and weirdness that could easily be associated with the MGMT BLSHT; except they're both far better at it.

So, you're saying they've been working this niche longer than MGMT.

On the Rise Against question James, my answer is "no". There are actually many melodic hardcore bands out there if one looked. Maybe not as accessible as RA, but they are there. Of course, it all comes down to one's personal taste.

As for EotS, DavID does speak the truth to some extent. The 2 collaborators have been around the block before and there is no doubt that "eccentricity & weirdness" play a part in their main projects. For mine, EotS do verge more towards MGMT (so it is quite the same nice they have been working previously), but like I insinuated at the beginning of the review, it actually could have been bad/good timing.

The Sleepy Jackson annoy me a lot, some with PNAU and Empire of the Sun, though I enjoy MGMT. They have something these other groups don't.

And yes Davey, I completely agree with you on the Rise Against question, just though I would throw it out there anyway.

The Rise Against question made me think for a few seconds James, so it was worth a shot.

As for all the other groups you mentioned, it could be as simple as 2 or 3 tracks having an accessible or catchy hook. It's fairly personal. I could understand if someone hates the whole lot of them, MGMT included.

Yeah. Pretension.
