Rise Against needs to be noticed?

No no, not that kind of 'noticed'. You'd be surprised at the kind of attention that arguably controversial lyrics could bring to the band. Sort of going by the "any publicity is good publicity" theory. As for potential other singles, I actually thought 'The Strength To Go On' was quite good.
As for Rise Against needing to be noticed, well they don't "need" to be. But any time I hear Tim speak, I always get the feeling that there are many messages he'd love to spread to the wider community. This Message Edited On 10.26.08

Yeah I get what you're saying...I'm still pretty fuzzy from the flu/medication so it might take a few days for my thoughts to get back to being completely rational again haha...

From what I've heard this is a decent album, although I've grown somewhat tired of the same sound after five albums.

upped to a 4, im really torn between a 3.5 and 4 though. I actually find it to be their most solid album, I like every track a lot and I actually don't feel like anything is truly filler. Their other albums have had 1 or two filler tracks imo.
but yeah Savior is still the best track BY FAR

I'd have to disagree with some of the review, personally. I'd say that while it's certainly "mainstream" and accessible, this is an extremely consistent album, and one of my personal contenders for best non-metal album of the year. (Yes, music comes in two varieties, like it or not: metal and all the other stuff.)
Personally I found that there's not a single song on this cd that I want—or need—to skip, and listened to it nonstop for three consecutive plays today, start to finish. I'm neither a general fan of punk rock nor a left-wing Democrat, but I'm left virtually breathless by the sheer catchiness and energy dominating this entire work. From beginning to end, regardless of the lyrics (with which I almost consistently disagree) or the shameless political motivation, I was blown away by Appeal to Reason. This Message Edited On 11.03.08

meh was debating whether to raise the rating, but i only listen to six of the thirteen tracks. the rest, is either boring filler or hero of war.

I actually think this is a bit better than Siren Song... and about level with The Sufferer & The Witness. Some of the anger (not much, mind you) has been lost in this album, but the songs are less samey and experiment a little bit more than before, so it pretty much evens out.
Also, though the rhymes in Hero Of War are pretty childish, the images and emotions conveyed by both the lyrics and the voice more than make up for it, I think. This Message Edited On 11.08.08

It's definitely level with Sufferer, but not better than Siren Song.

aside from typical growing, the thing about hero of war's lyrics being direct quotes from the troops softened my take on how bad they are, so i upped this. This Message Edited On 11.08.08

Maybe when we get to 9346 we can have a witty retort.
In my case I like the change of pace Hero of War brings, its refreshing plus it is executed very well and although the lyrics aren't great its still a very enjoyable song. This Message Edited On 11.08.08

I love Hero of Wars lyrics "“They took off his clothes/They pissed in his hands/I told them to stop/Then I joined in” might be titillating to some" Its not titillating in the slightest and this was actually happening in Iraq he didn't make it up
I give the album a 4 its not as good as their previous albums but those were epic

I finally just picked this up. I think a good chunk of the songs on this album are better than almost anything on Sufferer (like Savior) but overall this album isn't as consistent.

Not trying to sound like a dick here but you should actually find out what titillating means because when you do, you'll realize how awful what you just said sounded. I don't think anyone (especially in regards to what the lyrics are referencing) would find it titillating.

RPM is supposed to be their best. It isn't but it's still great.

Seconded.
