Excellent review Dave, you put a lot of research and thought into it and it shows.
On first listen I disliked it a little for it's overproduction, but was impressed with many of the arrangements. A couple of listens later most of it has really gelled for me as something special, it has that pompous rock ridiculousness that will prevent a lot of people taking it seriously, granted, but it hasn't sounded this good in years.
Begone haters, even if it is not to your tastes this is far from appalling. This album is best listened to it through headphones, theres so many little nuances at work

I can't stop listening to the album, I keep finding new things that are great about it
Also they have lead bass and rhythm bass according to the booklet, lol

CD is, in the end, a very "*****" album in my opinion.
The production, although very far away from the rough "rock n roll" debuts, is quality, there a LOT of sounds.
IF THE WORLD is a prime example of the amazing production, these 15 years were able to deliver.
No matter what the haters will say, if you look back 6 years back, it's hard to find many records with such gathering of amzing songs.
And Axl had the decency to drift away from Appetite, he did not try to play it simple.
And one word: buckethead. The guy saves it all.
if you have bought Cd, you can add your photo to this weird flickr group

God knows this isn't good. It reeks of stereotypical rock structure and it doesn't even execute it well. The guitar work is laughable and the new vocality is literally laughable. No one else thinks this? I'd rather listen to that new f'ucking nickelback.
I like how you try to come off as really articulate and intelligent here, but you just end up looking like a jackass.

I agree with essentially everything in this review, aside from one thing... "This I Love", is much better than "Riad and The Bedouins".

Long ago, they were somethin we could truely look up to as an inspiration of a finer breed of Metal, but now........they need to retire...I mean seriously reconsider any further stage or studio time

This album has gotten pretty much good reviews across the board, and i'm shocked. It just sounds so dated.
