It is really good. Overproduced, yes and it has a little filler but them's my only gripes with it.

Axls "one nightmare at a time" and "i dont know if soon is the word" policy made this record in the making and now its the turn of videos and merchendise and publicity. Still its a gr8 record. I respect the conviction. Some of the solos are distorted and bizzarre. And too many ballads make it sound too mature for my liking.

Street of Dreams is my favorite track on the album too. Love the CD from front to back. Sorry and This I Love are probably my least favorite.

2 things
GN'R is not a band anymore, for more than 15 years now it is Axl and a couple of revolving door musicians. Up till Use your illusion 1&2 there was the band-concept. they toured, lived and wrote the music as a band, here it is Axl alone.
2. Up till use your illusions 1&2 GN'R always had some originality, tunes you wouldn't expect from such a band (Breakdown, double talking jive, patience, Rocket queen, you ain't the first, coma). On Chinese democracy this originality is completely abscent, the scope has narrowed. It also has to do with the passed time, good musicians evolve, Axl's just stuck in 1993, the songs are far from bad, but artistically he stopped evolving.

agreed, but isn't this what G'n'R has always been about? I mean, they're just your straight up rock band, playing straight up rock music. I really wasn't expecting anything other than that, and I got to admit Axl actually delivered here. Amongst all the hype, anti-hype, 15 year wait, etc, he actually managed to put out a good rock record that does indeed mirror his band's strongest days pretty well. Didn't think I'd say it, but nice job Axl.

I just played the one song on Rock Band 2 last night and it was actually interestingly fun (guitar-wise at least). But the rest of the album not so much.

Even if it is axl and friends, I still enjoyed it way more than I thought. I was expecting crap and got a very solid album.

Take it as an Axl Solo album and its fricking fantastic, don't get hung up on the name and I'm a huge Replacements fan so Tommy Stinson is added win.
