This is a really good review, but I think you could've gave them more credit on Hungover on a Tuesday and Spitshine...especially Spitshine which is a great ear catcher for those who have not yet heard of dredg....I think it is the fans who have slipped into the comfort zone and not Dredg..

My Fav Dredg Songs(best to leaset out of the ones I really like):

1) Jamais Vu

2) The Tanbark is hot lava

3) Of the Room

4) Spiteshine

5) Symbol song

6) Planting Seeds

7) Hungover On aTuesday

8) Bug Eyes

9) Catch Without Arms

10) Ode To the Sun

...there are more but these are MY picks for the top dredg songsThis Message Edited On 01.26.06

Well Viper, with a band like Dredg, you really have no idea what to expect out of a new album. Perfect example...Thrice's new album. Everyone I know was expecting more shredding and screaming and such, and didnt get anything like that. So most fans of Dredg were probably (IMO) expecting something more dreamy like El Cielo...I know I was.

In any case, this record has really grew on me, and I go through it almost once a day while i'm at work. Nice review, BTW...very interesting format.

Jamais Vu, Hungover on Tuesday, and Bug Eyes do it for me.

I like the album overall, but it just doesn't give me that feeling that came with El Cielo. The album gets a mediocre rating from me seeing as how I only really care for slightly over half the songs on this cd.

I was disappointed for the most part, but a few songs are real keepers (Bug Eyes, Ode to the Sun, Jamais Vu.) I personally wouldn't recommend this over the other two albums.

I agree with you Mav. This is a very good album, but I'd definately recommend El Cielo first, then Leitmotif, then CWA. I just got Leitmotif, and LOVE it. I'm afraid CWA will get passed over more and more when I want to hear Dredg.

I liked this album... but as it has been said, it doesn't even compare to El Cielo or Leitmotif. Nice review... very thorough.

I tried getting into these guys but I can't and it's mainly because of the vocals. I just think they are absolutely wretched.

The music itself has its moments, but a little too heavy on the delay effects and evokes too many of those hackneyed melancholy tones thats beyond my personal liking.

"The lush soundscapes either work for you or they don't"

That's completely true, but have you guys heard anything besides this album? If not, look into El Cielo.

I can't even fathom not liking Dredg's voclas; I'm in love with them. This Message Edited On 02.18.06

Good review per usual Kage.

I like this album bit it lacks that feeling of a grand work, which El cielo and Lietmotif had.

They say the theme of this one is light and dark, Yin and Yang I just dont see it... err hear it.

They're virtually unknown down here.
I tried to describe them to a friend as 'like if Tool and U2 got into a fight with Pink Floyd' and he just had zero idea of what I was talking about.
Seriously though, this is the kind of band that reminds you why you love music in the first place. Ode To The Sun, Sang Real, and the title track are all utterly gorgeous. The entire album is great, but those are my picks. Their other albums are sweet too.

I like the album, but it was a little too poppy for me compared to their other material. I enjoyed a lot of the tracks (Bug Eyes, The Tanbark is Hot Lava, Sang Real, Jamais Vu).

Good stuff, but I enjoyed Leitmotif and El Cielo much more. This Message Edited On 05.06.06

"Spitshine macaroni elf."

Anyway there are some great individual songs on this album, like "Ode to the Sun" and "The Tanbark Is Hot Lava." Even though I rage against lesser, more popular modern-rock bands like Seether and Staind (ugh), Dredg proves that all is not lost in this makeshift genre. They deserve a slice of fame, especially with such a terrific singer.

I think this is an incredible album. I love how music swings your emotions every where and that the actual music sings as much as the singer

Weird to draw a comparison between Dredg and Seether/Staind.

I find it a lot easier to pick out individual stand-out tracks on this album than any other Dredg record. I was thinking about it, and right now my favorite CWoA track is Zebraskin, and my favorite El Cielo one is....hmm, well...
