This just proved that this Oberst is overrated as fuck and never came even close to real geniuses of music.

First off, I really did enjoy reading your review.
Even though I would consider myself a pretty big Conor Oberst fan I think that there is a lot of truth in it.
But then- on the other hand- I think that most of you are being a little too fast on the judging.

Even though 'Outer South' might not be as lyrical, even though Conor lets his band mates sing 7 of the 16 songs, and even though we all know that there are better Bright Eyes/Solo works- I think 'Outer South' is a fun and very solid album. It almost seems to me like Mr. Oberst is trying to break free, gathering a group of crazy people around him, which can contribute to his work just as much as the experience and impressions he collected in Cassadaga for example. When you're working on an album it is the current state of life that affects your work- and why not let Conor be experimental? Surely this isn't something that will go on forever- all it can do is shape and form him further.

Personally, I even like most of the songs already. Yes, it really isn't his best work but there are some very interesting songs that just make you want to listen to it more and more often. 'White Shoes' is absolutely beautiful. 'Ten Women' is a great song that sounds very interesting and new. And the 'Big Black Nothing' is a hammer that smacks you across the face if you are not prepared for an absolutely convincing Nik Freitas who doesn't need to hide behind the instruments at all! And to the people that accuse Conor of being not-in-the mood. I'm not sure whether you have seen him on stage at all? But when you see Conor throw a show you know that the man's commitment to music is so much bigger than most musicians'. I love his voice and it is songs like those mentioned already that make me want to pop the CD back in and listen to it once more.

I can't wait to be listening to it in a few days, discovering some tiny details that will make the CD even better. And doesn't it always come down to those lovely little details that make a CD so much more special and original? This Message Edited On 05.06.09This Message Edited On 05.06.09This Message Edited On 05.06.09

I cant help but think that this is partly a joke. "He only has 5 good albums"... Wait a minute, ONLY 5? From someone who obviously isnt the biggest fan, which is ok. I think 5 is pretty resounding. Im indifferent to your opinion either way but please lets not complain for the sake of complaining. Id be far stretched to dislike a band whom I like 5 Cds from.

You guys are crazy. The musicianship, the lyrics, and even the style of music are all great imo. This isn't Bright Eyes' style, and it's not even bright eyes, so why the fuck are you all comparing it to bright eyes? the reason he started making music under a different name was so he could do something a little different.

if he really wanted to 'escape' or 'move on' from bright eyes he wouldn't use his real name, he'd go by, like, 'not bright eyes' or 'frogface' or something.
