"Asher's (Green Day's) lyrics are outdone every day in ciphers across the globe, but he (they) is (are) still talking about substantial subjects that are important to him (them), which is the first step to becoming a great lyricist"
if scyther says so

"American Idiot did not "work"
it was probably one of the most contrived and ridiculous albums that green day could have ever written. not one song was worth listening to twice."
Nup. It worked because it took the whole 3 chord power pop forumla and gave it a huge dose of 'the who' style rock opera making it my personal favourite album ever. This Message Edited On 05.12.09

American Idiot was a Hail Mary pass of pop music, featuring a teenage band on the wrong side of thirty throwing shit to the wind and going for broke
seriously dude
seriously?This Message Edited On 05.12.09

I expected reactions like this to the album. And with a single like "Know your enemy" that does not suprise me, if the rest of the album sails in the same wake

Great review sir. Unfortunately for Green Day, I too, do not care about hearing one bit of this album.

Hmm, I actually like 21 Guns. I'm in two minds about listening to this, one one hand I really need to see for myself, on the other hand...its 18 fucking tracks long.

OH gawd the horrendous cover is on the front page of sputnik now

Hearing them blasting Know Your Enemy at my gym gives me every incentive to stay the fuck away from this.

Album cover is sucky crap.
The American Idiot cover was iconic, wether you liked that album or not, but the art for this is suck.

Excellent review. Tbh I dont think theres a bad song on it but its just far too long and samey to merit anything higher than 3.5.
|

I like the art to be honest. I just think its trashy when used in conjunction with Green Day.
|

All the hatred toward this album has put me off Green Day for life. I'm sick of hearing about them now.

Still, their the best pop-punk band ever.
this is straight bullshit.
brilliant review, and it's further cemented my decision not to bother with this album, a decision i came to after hearing half of "know your enemy" and turning it off thinking "this is total dog arse."

Blink 182 are nowhere near as good in my opinion. Never heard the other guys.

^ Hell yes. Greatest pop/punk album by a landslide. And "This is not an exit" is the greatest pop/punk song by a landslide.

Whole point with this record is that NOT BEING BAD does not equate to BEING GOOD.
Album is painfully inconsequential and review made me laugh a lottt especially the bit about the irony of the title & the bit about Billy Joe not knowing what he's talking about. Brilliant review.

blink-182 rapes Green Day. Say Anything, Alkaline Trio and older Brand New (Your Favorite Weapon) are all waaay better. Hell, New Found Glory and Sum 41 beat this album imo.
As for the album I listened to it once so I'm not sure what I'd rate it. Somewhere around the 3 mark I'd say. Just some things really piss me off about the album. Some of the lyrics obviously. Most of the plagiarized stuff pisses me of so much, Horseshoes and Handgrenades rip of Main Offender so bad it hurts...
