Though it may be STP's top album in sales, it's definitely not an excellent one. It succeeds and yet...

Grunge became a bad word after Kurt Cobain's tragic death. It represented commercial greed and corporate evil. Post grunge posers flooded the charts but didn't have the same emotion or authenticity of earlier bands like nirvana, pearl jam or stone temple pilots?

The stone temple pilots were always criticized, mostly because they just happened to be a grunge band when grunge was popular, but look past all the harsh criticism and you'll realise core is actually quite a decent album.

Melodic hard rock is often very bad, it’s usually just a band writing cheap pop songs but keeping it heavy to stay cool, despite all this the stone temple pilots have pulled it off. Songs like wicked garden and plush contain infectious and creative hooks to pull you in. sex type thing and dead and bloated represent the heavier side of core, showing bare bone riffs and subtle hooks, these songs contain the strong emotion and power many people thought STP lacked.

However as with most albums there are some throwaways like naked Sunday and crackerman, these songs are just dumb, don't get me wrong their fun and catchy as hell but lack any real musicality and really dumb down the album in a bad way.

Scott Weiland's vocals represent a southern style of baritone that is not unique but Scott defiantly can sing and overall he sounds great.

Instrumentation is ok to great, nothing amazing but there are some signs of genius (plush intro). There is actually an instrumental track that you could be forgiven for thinking it’s a Metallica song (it’s pretty good). The album actually had a pretty strong atmosphere whether it was intentional or not, it’s awfully grungy and feels like sitting alone on a cold night waiting for something bad to happen, this air tension actually managed to keep me listening through the couple bad songs on core

Overall core is not as bad as people say but is far from revolutionary and can get quite a bad case of repetition. Despite all this, it’s an enjoyable and sometimes powerful album.

Odd choice for your first review, considering you're only giving it three stars. I'm a bit new at this myself and all of my reviews, so far, have been albums that I really enjoy. Not that it matters - cool album to review nonetheless.

I completely disagree with you on "Crackerman" and "Naked Sunday", especially "Naked Sunday". That's probably my favorite track on the album. The live performance of that one, complete with Scott singing through a megaphone, is a highlight of the entire career of STP, for me.

Not sure if you want the constructive criticism, but if you're serious about writing reviews, it's good to know where you could use improvement. If you think I'm a dick for it, I apologize. I'm a reviewing n00b, myself, and appreciate it when others tell me where I could use improving..

I think your review would be better served with some paragraph breaks. Also, song titles get capitalized and should have quotes around them. There are a couple (minor) spelling errors. If you have a friend that's good with English (like an English major), it doesn't hurt to have somebody review your work. Granted, this is just a random music website, not a music publication, so you may not be here for the same reasons I am - in which case, you may not care about things like this and I could be totally wasting my time here giving you pointers. The fact that you're submitting it to a website where others criticize your work though, indicates that you would like feedback on your writing. Lastly, your review is a bit short, when compared to others on this site. People are real serious about writing around here, it seems, so if you wanna keep pace, it's a lot of hard work. Otherwise, I'd say you're off to a good start. Keep it up and good luck.

[side note] I was not the one who voted this review as not well written. I'll offer advice, but I wont give anyone a negative vote - at least on their first review.

Decent review, although needs some editing. Many people review a not-perfect album for their first though, robot.
